English help! - April 16th 2015, 07:34 PM

Hello everyone,

Iím needing a bit of help with my English homework. Would anyone be willing to help me out? Below are the instructions for part of my homework.

Instructions:

For sentences 11 through 15, find the noun clause in each sentence. Then select the answer choice that identifies all the following. (1) The subject and predicate of the noun clause, (2) The correct use of the clause in the sentence.

13. Roberta said that high ozone levels give her headaches.

A. Subject: Levels, predicate: Give, Use: direct object

B. Subject: Roberta, Predicate: That, use: predicate noun.

C. Subject: Ozone, predicate: give, Use: Subject.

I think itís either C or A.

Can you guys help me find the right answer?

I'll be honest with you, I don't know if we're allowed to give you homework answers, but the answer is A. The reason falls with the Subject of the sentence. The subject of the sentence is what or whom the sentence is about. The sentence is about the Ozone LEVELS and the impact they have.

If the sentence had read, "Roberta had found that there was a connection between Ozone and her headaches" then the answer would be "Ozone".

The predicate is the thing that tells us something about the subject. So the answer is "levels" and what do high levels do? They GIVE her headaches. .

I hope that answers your question. I didn't want to just give you the answer and go, I wanted to give you a (hopefully) clear explanation to help you answer the questions yourself. I have no trouble helping you on occasions, but from now on, I encourage you to try the question and if you don't know them, go straight to your teacher, because they know how they have taught you throughout the whole season. I am sure they will understand because a homework question left unanswered isn't that bad, as long as students speak up about the fact that they don't know.

It would however, be extremely frustrating if you were just too lazy to do it or if you thought homework is "for nerds" and I can see neither of those are the case .

People have only helped me in understanding what the problem is, and the correct answer I've came up with on my own.

I always put what I believe is the right answer, and ask if I'm right. If I'm not, then I ask for help. I've never asked anyone to give me the answers, lol.

I do want to thank you for helping me, though. I was really having a problem with that one.
