English composition help - May 23rd 2015, 06:56 PM

Hello everyone,

I'm having a bit of trouble with an English composition assignment. I'm not sure if I'm doing this correctly or not. Could I paste my answers here and you guys tell me if I'm doing it right?

Here it goes!

Chapter Quiz

On a separate sheet of paper, number from 1 to 8. Then, read each of the following sentences. If a sentence is simple, write simple next to its number. If it is a compound sentence, write compound. If a sentence is complex, write complex.

1. Simple: Although the boat was old, it stayed afloat.

2. Complex: The hikers missed the signs, and they soon became lost.

3. Simple: Mr. Warren called the police twice yesterday.

4. Simple: When a snowstorm hits, the roads are closed.

5. Compound: It is a nice autumn day, but winter is on the way.

6. Compound: The team from East High and the team from West High play each other on Thanksgiving Day.

7. Simple: The mountain rumbled for days before the volcano erupted.

8. Compound: The boys and girls are searching for a lost kitten in the backyard.

So, some of these seem to be trick questions. I'd check with your classmates and/or teacher. If all you're doing is finding compound sentences then you are finding a sentence with TWO simple sentences separated by 'and,' 'or', or 'but.'

It looks good to me, but it's been awhile since I've had english comp.
