What do i need? (and part time jobs) - October 5th 2015, 07:18 PM

My main goal in life is to become a Clinical Psychologist as I really want to help others in life. I've been thinking about this lately and I have a few questions.

what GCSE's do I need?
what should I study in college?
is this a good career choice?

Secondly, I know as a 14 year old there aren't really many part time job opportunities and I live in a small town which doesn't help. I'm not really keen on things like cleaning gardens or anything but I want a proper paid job like stacking shelves or waitressing. So does anyone have any tips for finding a part time job?

Thank you for the help!

Since you're in England, I would start by looking here: (British Psychological Society) http://careers.bps.org.uk/area/clinical

And here's a list of the basic requirements as well as links to information about similar careers: http://www.prospects.ac.uk/clinical_...quirements.htm

Hey there,

In terms of GCSEs, I don't think there is anything specifically that you need to take. However, to get onto a degree in clinical psychology, you will most likely need the standard 5 A*-C GCSE grades including maths and English. As for a-levels, or any college courses, then something along the lines of psychology might be helpful, but not necessarily required.

No-one can answer whether it's a good career choice or not, because it's your life and your opinion is what matters the most here. If it's something you are interested in, then I'm sure you will find it to be a rewarding career.

I'm not too sure on jobs, but I'm wondering if you may be a little too young to work part time. For clarification, try asking around the places you want to work at and see what they say about your age. Otherwise, volunteering, offering to babysit or walk pets are other alternatives.

It might help if you could talk to a careers teacher in school or visit the National Careers Service for more information on careers. The links that Kate has provide above are also very useful.
