Hey there,

I'm sorry to hear that the interview didn't go exactly the way you wanted it to go. However, you can be assured that employers will be used to seeing many young, and often very nervous, people at the interview. Even older, more experienced people get nervous at interviews. Employers and interviewers understand that.

For now, try not to worry about it. Easier said than done, but it's in the past. Also, you can use this as a learning experience. You now know that you can get quite anxious for interviews, so now you can try to figure out things to help lower the anxiety. You could try to prepare more for the interview, even have a practice run with a friend, where they can ask questions that you aren't expecting.

If you don't get the job, is it possible to ask for feedback on why you didn't get the job? This might also help you prepare for future interviews, by taking on board the feedback.

If it's also possible, you could ask your doctor for a referral for counselling to help deal with interview nerves. Alternatively, you could look into self-help things such as breathing exercises to help calm you down.

I know that it's difficult, but don't let this get the better of you. Keep trying and you'll get there

I think it's fantastic that, despite your nerves, you actually turned up to the interview. Many people, some a lot older than you, would not have done that. Please recognise that as an achievement in itself, regardless of whether you are given the job.

Interviews are difficult, but the more you attend, the easier they get. I've lost track of how many interviews I've been to, and honestly I don't really get nervous any more because I know what is going to happen when I get there.

I really hope you are successful in getting the job but, if not, don't despair. You are just better prepared for the next interview.

Be kind to yourself.
