Internship Discouragement - February 3rd 2017, 01:55 PM

Hey guys,

So I am currently on the hunt for an internship for this summer. Due to transportation issues I can only do this in my city or the cities surrounding it, and so far I have gotten a lot of "nos," no call backs, and one "maybe."

This is very discouraging to me as I am really worried about not being able to find an internship and not being able to graduate early/on time. Or I'm worried that nobody will want me and that I really just suck.

Anyone ever been in this situation and have tips on how to not get so discouraged?

I got my internship through a professor. I made a meeting with her, I told her what I was interested in doing, she said she knew someone in that field and contacted them. When they responded saying they would talk to me, she forwarded me their contact information.

This is why networking is so important! When you have someone vouch for you up front, it really makes an impression. Do you have any contacts in the field you are looking for, like a professor, that you could talk to? You never know who knows who.

Thanks! One of my professors suggested places to me but many of them didn't work out. I asked another professor based on the interests and I guess my local health department doesn't do anything with that interest.
The other issue is needing to stay local.

You need to ask professors that you have rapport with to contact the people they know. If they are the ones to reach out first, I think its much more likely to happen.
