Angry Quitting my apprenticeship.. please help :( - May 4th 2017, 12:17 PM

Im 19 and currently doing a Business Admin apprenticeship. I have been doing this for 7 months or so. However, the past few weeks I have been thinking about leaving the apprenticeship... the reasons for this are:
Its not something I want to do as a career
I strongly feel like Iím not developing my skills
It is so unstructured and unorganized Ö I feel like I never really have anything to do..
Iím always in the office on my own as my boss is hardly ever in or very late (company is just run by him and his wife)
Due to my boss being away majority of the time, Iím in the office on my own 90% of the time and then im unsure of what Iím expected to do
The pay is awful, I could work a standard job and earn nearly triple the amount!
When my boss is in the office he rarely gives my any tasks to do throughout the day and if he does its thinking such as; making phone calls or scanning documents. I find it so boring and feel like im wasting my time in a job that I do not enjoy nor want to do as a career.

I have nothing against my boss, heís a really nice, lovely guy. However, this just isnít for me anymore and I want to quit my apprenticeship and get a normal job and earn real money. Iíve already been looking at jobs the past week and want to start applying... but I havenít told my parents that I want to quit my apprenticeship as they think Iím really enjoying it... when that is not the case. And I have a feeling theyíll just tell me to ride it out when I really do not want to.

How can I bring this up to my parents that I want to quit and work a normal job?
How do I quit my apprenticeship? Do I have to give any notice as it does not state it in my contract?
How can I bring this up to my boss as I want to quit ASAP?.

AlsoÖ I would like to work night shifts in a job.. I do not know how to tell my parents I want to look for a night shift job.

Thanks for reading 😊

If you're close to the end, I would suggest trying to finish it. If not and you're miserable then go ahead and quit, but have another job lined up so you can show your parents that this isn't just an excuse to be "lazy" because you don't want to work. I think you've explained yourself well and have good reasons for wanting to quit and do something else.

I personally don't know how to leave an apprenticeship, but would treat it like quitting a job. Definitely give notice, especially since you like your boss and will likely need him as a reference. You might want to talk to him either way about why you aren't happy there before just leaving. He might be able to make it better for you, or at least consider changes for the next person.
