questions about putting TH work on resume - February 11th 2018, 03:11 AM

Back in the day I would run facilitated discussions as chat mentor. I also became a HelpLink Associate and on the Articles Team, which I am not doing so actively but I am trying to get back into it. So I want to put it on my resume but I am not sure how it would work with an online international website.

What if my future employer wants to know more information about the work I did here and asks for a reference? Is there an email address I can provide? Is there a way to highlight the work I did here, without giving my username out. Because that would be way too personal and the way this site works as a peer based forum, is that regular users can post threads for support and advice or self expression or blog posts, while later on becoming a staff and then going back to being a regular user. And therefore, it's not all professional staff work on my account and I would want to remain anonymous.

Maybe I'm overthinking this. I am just nervous because i am working with an employment specialist who is helping me write my resume and he next time I see him we will talk about Teenhelp, which so far all he knows is that I ran facilitated discussions via a chatroom, and i'm even nervous to give him the web address. I'm just really anxious about it. But I also want to include it in my resume.

You wouldn't be able to see it in the training manual anymore, but it does say that you can PM Rob to ask for a reference.

From what I know about resumes, you should not list your references on there. You should put something like "References provided upon request". I don't see why you'd need to provide your username, though. All they should need is the reference if they ask for it. However, I'm sure your employment specialist would know more than I do about requirements with where you live.

“There is nothing beautiful about the wreckage of a human being.
There is nothing pretty about damage, about pain, about heartache.
What is beautiful is their strength, their resilience, their fortitude
as they display an ocean of courage when they pick through the
wreckage of their life to build something beautiful brand new,
against every odd that is stacked against them.” — Nikita Gill

Hey there,

You can PM Rob and ask him. I asked him recently and he was able to provide me with a way to contact him. He could, also write a letter of recommendation if you'd like or I think he'd probably be willing to do that.

If you want to include TH on your resume you would want to make sure that they know it is volunteer experience. My dad helped me do my resume (he does hiring/resume help for his workers etc) and he included all my volunteer work as 'relevant experience' but we made sure to include that the volunteer positions were indicated as such.

You do not have to include your username and I highly doubt that any place you interview for will even want to know.

I worked with a job specialist for a while and mentioned my volunteer work and he didn't ask for much more information. I admit my job specialist wasn't all that great (The one you are working with sounds a lot more invested/helpful than mine) and didn't want me to include my volunteer work so that might have been a reason. However, when my dad helped me out he said people don't need to know my username or much else. I just need to be able to explain what I did and I can provide a reference/letter of recommendation.

When you end up getting an interview, you will include the references on a separate paper. You should be sure to bring the references with you on the interview and hand it to them. When you come prepared with a resume and reference it can help on the interview since a lot of people don't. This is what my dad has said. He also says that a lot of the time (at least depending on where you are interviewing) they won't ask for references and they like seeing you come with the resume and references on hand.

I hope that this helped and If you need any help I might be able to provide it since I have recently worked on this.
