My career choice (for now) - April 2nd 2018, 04:07 PM

Just thought I'd like to say that I've decided that I'm going to be a cosmetologist~ I reallllyyyyy love doing other people's makeup, hair, and nails. I've talked with my grandma about my choice and she thinks that I should try to start up my own business in town when I graduate, especially since my school offers cosmetology for junior and senior years, and when I graduate I'd already have my license and be able to start working right away.

But that is just my career choice for now, haha. Over the years I've changed my choice from a vet, to a FBI agent, to a teacher, and than a nurse. Now, it is a cosmetologist.

It isn't a bad career choice since you can make your own hours. If you are in the USA you will have to figure out a way to get medical/dental/vision insurance. The key is building a clientele. If you can do that then it is likely that you could start your own business. My sister in law does hair and has a lot of people that love her and she makes what someone working full time makes and only works 3-4 days a week.

Oh wow! That is so cool! I've already been doing some research on how to get the insurance I need. And my real dad can easily help me build a clientele, although he doesn't like my career choice. He believes that I should still be a doctor or something. But I don't care what he thinks because it's my life and I wanna do what I love.

Make sure you make a lot of connections. My wife and I are in the photography business, and connections are key to owning your own business. I highly recommend getting into the wedding industry as a cosmetologist. Also, don't underestimate supplemental income of blogs, vlogs, and other resources like Twitch. One thing you may consider while pursuing this is seeking out a degree in business for entrepreneur or marketing. It will be helpful, especially if they have courses in digital marketing so you can learn things such as SEO (search engine optimization). Then you also have a fall back if you do change your mind. I always have the mindset that money provides opportunity, so having a plan b is always good, especially if you tend to change your mind a lot.

Bear in mind, I give this advice from falling prey to changing my mind too much and having learned from my own mistakes and finally finishing my degree at 30.

That's a great choice!
The main thing is that you have a passion for it!

And if with a time you will have a desire to change it, that's not bad. That's a normal thing - to change something if you really feel you want it to change.

Wish you luck!

That's great for you! There a lot of ways for you to be great, and being a cosmetologist is one of them. Good luck!
