Scared - November 25th 2018, 09:08 PM

I'm scared, upset, and angry. So you know how I've been having this temp job? I didn't know about this but they hired 3 temps already and have yet to hire me. I'm scared and upset that I won't be kept. My boss has told me that if she had the space she'd keep me but so far she's hired three others and not me. I bust my butt off for this company and really helped them out through their busy season and this is how they're repaying me? By lying to me about keeping me? Those ones that were chosen to be kept already were given their offer letters a few weeks ago, and I asked her around that time if she had made any decisions yet and she said that no she hadn't. It ticks me off and irks me sooo much. I'm scared and really upset about this, what will I do? It's the holidays!

Hi Court,

I definitely know where you're coming from, especially around the holiday's not having job security can be tough. The people that were hired on, did they start their temp before you? If they did then that might be why. Do you know why they haven't kept you on? You should consider looking for something else as a back up. I'm sure there's lots of people hiring currently because of the holiday's and sometimes they will keep people hired on after that.

I hope this helps,
Brittany

Apparently she hired those three because she lost some other employees. I honestly don't remember who was there first and who wasn't. I've applied to a local hospital to be an admitting clerk or a housekeeper, whichever I get first if offered anything. I really don't want back into retail now that I got a taste of not being in retail

Court, thats awful I'm so sorry.
I would recommend jumping back in right away as it's getting close to Christmas, and a lot of places are hiring extra for the holidays.

I've applied everywhere, even retail though I hate retail with a passion. I'm hoping the hospital hires me as a clerical worker or an admitting clerk, but I also applied to housekeeping.

Re: Scared - December 1st 2018, 03:41 AM

Sorry to hear that you found out they let you go. I've also found myself in similar situations before and it's infuriating when people are kind of stringing you along and not telling you what's what etc. until they dump you. It's not fair and doesn't allow you to plan ahead.

Have you asked for feedback about why they choose to hire the other temps and not you? It could be for things that had nothing to do with you (e.g. maybe they had skills the company needed more, maybe they had an internal contact vouching for them, maybe they had seniority), but it can't help to find out, just to arm yourself with information -- lot's of employers want to know why you left your last job.

Good luck on the job search. I am sure something will come up.

I am so sorry. The loss of employment no matter what time of year is awful. All I can say is keep plugging away an applying and that seems to be what you are doing. You can't get down on yourself because you are doing everything in your power to get a job. Unfortunately you can't control what others are going to do. I hope this turns out for you quickly.
