Okay. So last friday I went to take a test to get into Algebra 1 for the seventh grade, which is REALLY advanced. There's three seventh grade math groups. Regular Math, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra 1. So yesterday I found out I didn't make it in. *tear* I am so sad... I was bawling my eyes out yesterday

Love you-- Kayla c:

Feel free to PM me if you need anything or have any questions :-)

You didn't get into Algebra I? That's not that big of a deal. I took Algebra I in 8th grade, and my brother took Algebra I in 9th grade.

Maybe you can make it into a higher math class by studying and testing out of a math? I'm not sure if that works... but in some cases you can test out of certain subjects.

Hey Kayla theres nothing wrong with that I didnt take Algebra 1 tell 9th grade. I took regular math lol. If you didnt get into Algebra that means you got into Pre Algebra thats a good start and you'll prolly get Algebra next year.

I was borderline on making it to Algebra I by 7th grade.
I got like a 79 on the test or something. I ended up taking it in 8th.
It's not that big of a deal. Depending on what you ultimately want to go into Algebra 2 (which follows Geometry...which in turn follows Algebra 1) is all you need for the SATs and colleges.
Be devastated if you're going to be an engineer or a math major, let it slide if you're not going to be.

Haha be proud! Its admirable that you care so much about your academics :-) I'm assuming you got into Pre-Algebra then? Thats still awesome! Look, if you really want to learn that Algebra 1, get ahead. Don't let your school slow you down, girl. So on top of your Pre-algebra, you can look up some algebra 1 stuff on the web (everything is on the internet, am I right?) or go to your local library. So, get going and wipe those tears of your face!

I took Alegbra I in seventh grade and to be honest, Kayla, I wish I hadn't. Most of my friends took pre-algebra in seventh and they did much better in algebra, because they had the foundation. The kids in my Algebra I class, we all scored lower on standardized testing as well - pre-algebra covers material Algebra I doesn't, some basic geometry and such.. there're concepts that you'd have missed out on if you went directly to the higher level class.

I know it might be a disappointment, that you didn't get into the class but don't let it discourage you, Kayla. You'll do great with pre-algebra and next year you'll end up in algebra I. If you want, and you're doing really well in pre-algebra, talk with the math department head at your school sometime in September or early October about switching into a higher-level class. See if you could be retested. But don't rush to take a higher level math course, I do think it'll benefit you more in the long run by staying in the math track you've been placed in. And remember you have plenty of time to take a higher level course.

how could anyone ever tell you, you are anything less than beautiful?| PM Me

hey come on, don't get too upset about it! it sounds to me like you're doing well by being in pre-algebra anyhow.. not that i know anything about the US schooling system. it sounds like you care a hell of a lot about your grades, and that'll stand you in good stead for the years to come. don't get down about it.. just make sure you work really hard and prove yourself with your grades.
