Exclamation High school is making me mental - June 13th 2009, 05:57 PM

SO first day of school this year I see my schedule and realize they put me in Spanish not French. No big deal, I put in a course change form. Two weeks later when everyone had gotten their courses changed I was still in Spanish. My mom called the school and they said there was no room, they just planned on not telling me and keeping me in Spanish! So then I was pissed. I was the only gr. 9 without the language I wanted (no exaggeration) and there are a whole lot of us. Anyways so the people in the office said they'd put me in socials that semester and then next semester they'd put me in French. So they put me in socials and I'm already behind...Great start for my first year at this school.

Then the next semester they told me there was no room and I just wouldn't take a language. OMG I WOULDN'T TAKE A LANGUAGE THAT WOULD SCREW UP MY FLIPPIN LIFE. (what schools and jobs would I be able to succeed in) So when my parents basically pestered them enough they said I'd have to go into socials 10 the second semester and then next year go into french 9 and 10. So now next year I have to go into French 9. This shouldn't be a problem but....

I HATE the year thats going into grade 9, they're so shallow and just degrade other people. I'm having so much stress going into grade 9 french. I'll have to speak in front of the class and humiliate myself because the school messed up 2 years of my life. And french is my worst subject. Who will be my partner for projects, I can't be with stupid people who I probaby will be because I'm a loner.

I am also now really worried about this because when I had to take socials 10 I found it very akward and lowered my self esteem. But being with those people next year will be a hundred times worse. I'm worried I'm going to lose myself if I haven't already and there isn't anything I can do about it.

I think I need sympathy and advice, but just pouring that out actually helped, sorry its so long

wow that sounds like a big mess!
Seeing as I dont know the american school system (at all!!) i find it a bit hard to understand how and why all of that happened, but i can tell you this much, you are always going to have to work with people you dont like at some point.
My class teacher said to me that I dont belong in my school, i have no motivation, i wont find a job and if i do find a job they will throw me out because of my attitude.
But i survived 3 years with him and i will survive another year aswell.
Maybe not all people in the year are that bad, there might be some nice people under them aswell. try working together with those.
you wont absolutley humiliate yourself, im quite sure of that.
really i do feel sorry for you that everything is such a mess! i can totaly understand why you are so cross, i would be to. but try not to worry about it all too much, there will be nice people in your class, and if there shouldnt be any (which i highly doubt) its only one subject, youll get by, i promise!!
but if you wanna talk about it a bit more, just pm me =)
good luck, hope it works out

You've got the music in you

Don't give up
You've got a reason to live

First off thanks so much for the reassurance. I don't think anyone understands how terrified I am of next year they just think I'm majorly pissed(which I also am)

I'm really not sure how that happened though, I think I just have terrible life luck. hopefully I won't spend my whole summer completely worrying. I guess it is true that I'll have to work with people I hate in the world, but I hate feeling insecure and alot of these people who I know in the grade below me love to see people feeling akward because of them. They basically prey on others weaknesses. I really really don't want to go to school next year

(and by the way, I'm Canadian)

I'm in the same situation as you. Two years of my life have been wasted at this one school I go to. I don't have any close friends there, and my first week of school was a nightmare! I was picked on for not having a boyfriend, of all things!

And at the moment, I'm begging my parents to send me to the nearby public school my friends go to! Not such a good situation. I feel like I'm outnumbered.

There's just one thing I don't understand. Why take French? There are many more Spanish-speaking people out there. French is almost useless, unless you're going to Europe. Same goes with Italian/Italy.

It seems like you're having problems outside of this class, though. If I were you, I'd transfer to another school!

PM me at anytime. I'm used to these situations.

I am sorry you are going through this.

That really sucks that your school messed up so badly. But, it will all be okay. So, you will have to take French class with people you don't really know, maybe it will be a good thing?

In high school I had to take german and I was dreading it because I wouldn't know anyone but you know what? It actually turned out great. I met new people and made a lot of neat friends. Maybe the same thing will happen for you?

Try not to stress to much. High school is definitely a somewhat stressful thing but it can be enjoyable too. Just focus on getting through the classes and the next couple of years and everything should get better.

Hope this helped and if you want to talk pm or aim me.

That sounds like a horrible way to start of high school, I'm sorry!

As you get older, I've noticed although it gets harder, high school becomes a lot more fun. Don't let this set back ruin your taste of high school. Before you know it, its over.

Ouch, sorry to hear about the mix up. Your school really should have made you a priority to put in that class, and if it came down to it, they should have squeezed you in, I've been in classes with 40+ students before, it's not fun, but sometimes you just have to in order to keep this from happening.

I can actually relate to you somewhat as well, it'd kill me to be in a class with the year under me because they are all people who I know and didn't get along with in elementary school. I really feel for you on that one.

At least your school isn't the only one to have done this though... at the start of my year, NONE of my classes were right I was in Spanish as well ande
I was supposed to be in Japanese, all of my friends had been very surprised with me: "You're taking Spanish?!" "No >.>"

It wasn't just that either, I also was in the advanced math class when I'm terrible at math. The regular English when I was supposed to be in the advanced one, and I was also apparently enrolled in Physics 30, it was so bad that it was funny.

Anyways, I really hope everything works out for you, don't stress too much though, high school is loads of fun even when it is frustrating.

If you ever want to vent some more or anything, you can feel free to PM me as well

Wow that's so annoying, I just typed so much and lost it... here I go again.

Ok so to start off with, I'm taking French because it would look good on a resume in a English and French speaking country and also I'd like to travel there. I guess it does sound like I'm having trouble outside the class but really I'm not. I have a good group of friends and get along well with them but I ocassionally have issues getting along with others (especially people who pretend to be stupid or are and people that make fun of others just because they can) Which is basically the year thats younger than me. I've been in split classes from gr 3 (when I moved here) until grade seven, and I've never gotten along with those people who think they stand above the rest of the world. Anyways maybe some will be in a different block but then again maybe they'd all be in my class (all being the ones I hate the most) I think all I can do is get really good at French over the summer so I'll be less worried about messing up and looking like a fool.

Hypocrisy #1: you're calling them shallow and that they degrade others, yet what is it that you call them?

Hypocrisy #2: You have issues getting along with others who make fun of people who are "stupid"? Funny, you're doing just that.

Hypocrisy #3: You claim that they seem to stand above the rest of the world, yet you're acting very arrogant and ignorant towards them. Just to look at your statement from a very superficial view, your username is "skatergirlatthetop"... .

Now that we're all finished with that, there's always the issue of moving to another school. If the administration at that one is this terrible, and if your parents are also very frustrated, why do you continue to stay?

Instead of crapping your pants over this, why not a) do summer school in the courses that the school admin. is having such difficulty with and b) quit your hypocritical views and have a positive outlook.

If you go in, acting as you are on here towards those students, do you really think people, regardless of their intelligence will work with you? For group work, who do you think will want to work with someone who is arrogant, ignorant, rude, hypocritical, etc...? What about for individual work where you want help from others, do you think that they'll go out of their way to help you? There's no need for them to do so, and if you act like you are now, give me a reason why they'd consider helping you out. I know I wouldn't. You'll probably be left alone, having to struggle, hating the students even more along with the course, complain away and only dig a deeper hole for yourself in this course unless you change your views, go in with a much more positive attitude. Take this as advice, both for the present and the future.
