Stereotypes in high school - June 24th 2009, 11:51 AM

Hi!
I hope everyone's having a great summer

I'm writing on a novel/short story (haven't decided the lenght quite yet), and it is about some teens in high school. Since I live in Sweden, we don't have high school, nor do we have the same stereotypes as I believe you might have. So, can someone please help me with the different kinds of stereotypes. The most common ones, that is.

So far, I've got jocks, prepps, artsy, and a few more, but I think I might need more...

Thanks

Pompous rich kid, or group of them.
Token black kid/minority groups (depending)
Band geeks
Pot heads

Eh, I can only think of alot of individual stereotypes. Not so much groups.

Do keep in mind not all schools have blatant stereotypes....It's always there, but whether its strong is a different story (I was in the marching band AND on the wrestling team..)

Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are

Irish stereotypes:

Boggers (farmers)
Knackers (like gypsies)
Skangers
Emos (no goths)
Refugees (play loads of sport, steal things)
Koreans (opposite to above)

No reason for you to use these - but fun to list them :P

Student government and all It's top leaders.
Band kids.
Art kids.
Bible club kids =)
Kids that can't seem to get out of whatever era of style they are in and join the 2000's.

Geek? Nerd? More like intellectual badass.

is my school the only school that really doesn't have any of these stereotypes? everyone just gets on with everyone, sure there are different friendship groups but in general there aren't really any divides.

Chavs
Skanks
Chavy Skanks
Emos
Metal Heads
Populars who get on with everyone and manage to have great grades and a great social life
Populars who refuse to get on with anyone but their friendship group and have bad grades
Technical crew
The couples who have ditched all their friends
The tight-knit, but small friendship groups

My school has all these but not particularly obvious if you dont go to my school.

Populars Guys/Jocks
Popular Girls
Emo/Scene
Outcasts/Loners
Skaters
Skanks/Sluts
Preps
Punks
Nerds/Geeks
Wannabes
Stoners/Burnouts
Devout Christian Kids
Goths
Chavs

There's more but I can't really think of them right now. I don't know if they'd have it in Sweden, probably not, but you should watch the movie Mean Girls. Its got some typical stereotypes in it.

LMAO. That one kind of surprised me too. Where I come from gangsters=everyone pretty much.

But I guess this is a stereotype thread, right?

yeah I know. but at my school, there is the group full of just african americans and then there's the a few white kids in there, acting like they are gangsters, so I characterized it as a stereotype.

This is the same with the mexicans. I's quite odd actually.

maybe this is just my school.
