Anyone ever had a Trimester Schedule? - July 18th 2009, 03:49 AM

This year our school is starting a 3x5 Trimester schedule and I have 2 questions...

1. Is the average number of students in each class slightly lower?
2. All core classes are 2 trimesters long. Are they usually side-by-side, (same period for both trimesters) with the same teacher, and same classmates?

That's all for now.

Yes, my school is on a trimester system.

1. It really depends on the school. My academic classes usually have around 20-25 kids, while the size of my electives vary each year. For instance, I only had 11 kids in my Stained Glass class (try saying that 10x fast!).

2. Usually, but it depends on your school and the subject. If I have math in 1st trimester, I will either have it again in 2nd or 3rd with the same teacher. If academic classes are two trimesters, you will most likely have the same teacher as the majority of schools feel it is not good to have two diff. teachers for a two-trimester class. As for the same classmates, this is usually the case unless someone switches out of your class. Depending on the class, there is a good chance you may have a few new students in your class. For instance, there could be two Biology classes during 1st trimester, but then both classes have a break during 2nd trimester. In 3rd trimester, the course resumes, but there may be only one Biology class so the school may put the majority of those kids from one of the Bio classes and place them in yours.

Does that make any sense? If you have any more questions, regarding a trimester schedule, feel free to talk to me. It can be a little confusing, especially to folks who are used to a semester system. Remember that it depends on your school and how they structure your schedule within a trimester system.

Thanks for replying! It makes sense. I've read up on trimesters and found out it tends to vary from school to school, but your post about sums all of them up. The reason I asked these 2 questions is because I'm worried that I won't have any classes with my friends.
The past 2 years I've had a 2x4 block schedule, and I was still exposed to a lot of people. Do you think there's a better chance that I can be with my friends/meet new people, or is it about the same?

It is really up to you. There are times where I never see my friends for awhile, but I make plans with them out of school. Everyone is busy with school, but it's good to take some time out to hang out with friends you may not see on a regular basis.
