Unhappy Really really really need a job!!!!! - July 22nd 2009, 04:05 PM

This is really stressing me out now because i cannot find a job anywhre, ive looked online, looked everywhere in my local area, given my CV into loads of different places and havent a word back. I know it sounds like im just moaning but i really want to go to university next year but i cant unless i start saving some money because i cant live or nothing and i also need a job for money now as im 17 and just get 30 from my parents each month.
Its sounds silly and i know there are thousands in the same boat but this is actually really upsetting me now that nobody will give me a chance because i dont have experience or because they have no vacancies.
Also it doesnt help that my younger sister got a job that I applied for just by chatting to the manager when she went there. Its so unfair, i dont want to be jealous of her but she has a job when im the one who really needs the money
Any advice please. Soz for moaning on x

I'm not trying to sound mean, but maybe you should look at your younger sister for advice. She was able to get a job by being friendly. I'm not saying you have to lie and by completely happy all the time, but smiling and being positive can help you get a job. Customers respond to positive attitudes from the employees to businesses tend to hire friendly people.
Look for training opportunities around town that can also help you get a job. Where I live, there are lots of free 'under-my-wing' kinds of training for young adults looking for experience.
I wish you best of luck in your new job search. Keep your chin up!

Elizabeth has good points, but you also have to know that this late in the summer it's going to be extremely difficult to find jobs; pretty much everything is taken. I have a friend who got a great job through Monster, but the other 2 people I know have applied at what seems like a billion places, and haven't even heard back.

While a positive presence is necessary, sometimes you just have to wait. Maybe when the school year starts jobs will become more available.

Just keep applying and being pleasant. And next year, get a job before the beginning of the summer before all the high-schoolers sweep in and get the positions.

Oh, and have you looked online for scholarship essays, etc? I had a friend who applied to literally 113 scholarship opportunities (she wrote like a trillion essays-haha), and didn't get a job, but focused all of her attention on that all summer. She ended up only getting 6 of the scholarships, but even those paid her first 2 years, paid and full. She made more with that than we did working all summer. Just a thought (:

Good luck! (:
