Angry PE Department - September 11th 2009, 05:35 PM

I just need your view on what you think about this Please

I came back to school and first PE lesson they check your kit, tell you what your doing in the first term second term. Etc.

ok just the other day. THe department decided to make all girls wear shorts unless they decided its suitible weather.

I'm sort of annoyed because for the past 3 years they alloud us to wear Tracksuit plain black which about 95% of the year did. Now they want us to spend more money on Equipment...I've already spent about 50 and thats just the beginining. Some of my friend has spent 100- or more because of the courses she's taking.

Also, a lot of girls are self consious and we've just come to terms with ourselves as Girls. They now expect us to show our bodies some girls are still uncomfortable with there bodies so what would want to make them wear shorts. I don't think thats right. I think it should be optional. I don't mind the colour. However, We've all spent enough money this year, Some are uncomfortable with there weight. ( I just had a bio experement and it about 2/3 of the girls in my class didn't do it because it was about weight)

we're all hormonal and some of the boys in the year are jerks!

I spoke to my head teacher and he was being a idiot about it I seriously wanted to slap him! Even my english teacher agrees with me.

So what would you do?
Nina

I would actually go to the principle with this one. Being self-concious myself, I don't own a pair of shorts that I actually wear outside. I hate my legs. Maybe talk to your P.E. teachers and have a lot of girl sign a petition?

Re: PE Department - September 11th 2009, 06:05 PM

You'll have to go higher then the P.E teacher on this one. As Holly said, the principal, of maybe even higher? This is a real issue and I do believe you that a lot of girls are uncomfortable with their bodies. It's simply not fair to the students to force these rules on them. The petition idea is great too, I'm fully in support of that, I say do it, so they can see exactly how many girls are against this.

Maybe get the petition first, then present it to the principal when you go for your appointment. Then if your principal agrees with you, take the petition, and your principal to talk to your P.E department.

Best of luck to you!

I agree with you. Id go to the head teacher...definatly. You are young girls going through puberty and hormone changes....its not fair to be told to wear shorts. I think that your P.E teacher is being a bit of an asshole to be honest. Like Holly said....try and get a petition going, because 15 yr old lads are nasty enough, without the insecurities about bodies you have anyway.

Hmm so by the sounds of it you're in the UK
Go to the board of governors?
Or at least threaten to. Maybe get your mum and all the parents involved
Also if you think you can get all the girls to do it. Just all of you turn up in tracksuit bottoms. They can't do much if its all of you. Safety in numbers and all that.
I speak as someone who's made waves before.
I got to drop PE and RE
I'm gooood at getting things done
Let me know how it works out for you

Re: PE Department - September 11th 2009, 07:25 PM

to be honest with you.. it's up to them what they decide the uniform is and theres little chance of them saying that you can wear something else, but i suppose it's worth a try. i know i for one hated wear shorts. [we had to wear these really clingy cycling type shorts that were very short!!] urgh, i hated PE because of it.

what we did was just wear trackies and take the "punishment." which was detention, to which none of us turned up for. if enough of you point blank refuse to wear the shorts you'll most likely get away with it. one girl got her mum to write a note to say that it was too cold for us to be wearing shorts so we she insisted her daughter wear trackies.. and that seemed to work.

..and our dreams will break the boundaries of our fears..
