Night School - September 11th 2009, 08:20 PM

Hey everyone

I was just curious, have any of you ever been to night school? Or know anything about it? I was thinking about going back to school, but I need to keep my job, therefore night school is the best option for me. When I went to college before, I just took art courses. Now I'm looking to try something with psychology. Can I even do full degree programs in night school?

Any thoughts/advice/experiences would be greatly appreciated!

I want to say my cousin did night school. I am not completely certain however. What kind of job do you work you may be able to work at night and go to school during the day. Online school may be another option if you can stay off forums while you are online lol.

A lot of times community colleges are geared towards the middle age adults (they're doing it even more and more as the years go on) so they try to set up evening classes.

You won't be able to get night classes for -everything- realistically but there's a lot of classes you are able to.

I know I took one that lasted 6:30 to 10pm - it was Biology and I always wanted to fall asleep. I just don't do well in a classroom when I see out the window it's dark.

I'm more of a morning person for classes.

I know right now for flexibility I'm in an online school that's also very nice for busy people.

The way my classes are instead of 4 classes in 16 week spans, I get 2 classes at a time 8 weeks long.

You start a class and they assign everything for the week and tell you when things are due in the week and you can work around your schedule to turn things in. I know with my school they even have a forum of discussion topics where you have to interact and sometimes have group assignments and have to communicate with each other in the class - sort of the schools clas participation portion of the class. Some classes it's not important at all but you'd still want to do it for the points - others discussion is the main thing and you're constantly having to do research and discuss with other students and that's the majority of your grade.

It's not easy but it is flexible and despite it being online I always have contact between my teacher (internal messaging, phone calling, emailing, etc)

I have to say I'm impressed with it's features.

I can't believe I never even thought of online schooling If I can stay focussed online, that would be a great way!

Someone on here suggested to someone doing online home schooling, to set up another account just for school and block all the sites that will side track you, so even if you're tempted it would be a hastle to get to them.

As for night school, a lot of places have evening classes, but it depends what you want to do. You can probably get most of the classes at night, it might be hard to get everything though. You'll aslo end up in class with people old enough to be your parents.

You could always try doing courses from home...I.e the American version of the Open University or something like it.

That's my major problem.
I know I took an online class once in high school and I ended up dropping out of it, because they gave you some far future distant date for everything to be turned in - and I always felt like 'well I'll do it tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow' but tomorrow never came.

With online classes in college (what I'm in right now) they give you weekly due dates. Some assignments due within 2-3 days - so tomorrow DOES come when you know where's only 2-3 tomorrows.

So it's easier to stay focused and know what do to and easier to have time management.
