Your opinions? - October 7th 2009, 04:22 PM

Well, I finish sixth form in summer and I've been thinking that maybe uni isn't my thing. I wanted to major in psychology but having a taste of uni...I don't think it would suit me. I've always had an interest in music and someone kind of encouraged me to fight for my first dream...so do you think going back to college and doing something in music would be the right way to go?

In my opinion, college is always the best way to go about everything. Even in music. I'm in college too. I know that when I got in, I was freaked out because I felt like I didn't belong there. But now that I've settled into the routine, I really like it.

Give it a try. It's normal to change your major a couple of times in college, so don't feel bad.

don't go to uni and do something that you don't want to do. to be honest, i think it's a complete waste of time. if you don't think it's the route for you then take a year or two to try out the whole music thing - afterall, you can always re-apply to uni for pyschology in a year or two. plenty of people have gap years so i don't see why going back to college for a year or two to do something that you love is anything but a good idea. definitely follow your dream - you don't want to have regrets and look back thinking 'what if?'.

..and our dreams will break the boundaries of our fears..

Have you ever considered using music in practicing psychology (assuming you go the counseling/therapy route)? Niche therapies are becoming more and more common, especially equine (i.e. with horses) and music in my experience. Here's somewhat of an overview of the ideas behind it:

If you like music and psychology, it might be something worth looking in to.
