Arrow Anyone Else That Didn't Go? - October 10th 2009, 02:03 AM

I just want to know how many other girls/guys out there didn't go to homecomings or proms. I didn't go to any of them... I just didn't really see a point in it. I mean, yeah, It would have been cool to dress up and have a date, but when It came down to it, It really wasn't that important.

Just curious.

Re: Anyone Else That Didn't Go? - October 10th 2009, 02:05 AM

I know this year I don't plan on going, and last year I went reluctantly because my friend dragged me there. Dances just don't seem fun to me, and I understand why they'd seem like a big deal but it's only a 'once in a lifetime thing' if you really enjoy it enough to make it worth that one time.

i reluctantly went to my leavers "prom." it actually turned out to be quite good.. but over here we don't have dances and stuff like that.. just like a prom thing when we leave school and that's it.. well at least where i went. so because it was the only one pretty much everyone went. if we had like a few year then no, i wouldn't have gone. effort.. and money. no thanks.

I didn't!

We don't have any dances or anything all through the school years, but we do have a Debs/Prom before we leave school. Mine was at the start of our last year of school (this September) and I didn't go. I don't regret it, to be honest.

Then again, I'm repeating a year of school so I get a second chance next year if I end up regretting it by then. (:

I went. Maybe it wasn't that important but it was bloody good fun, and what did you do instead? Sit inside watching TV or on the internet? Much more fun to go and enjoy yourself.

We don't have "proms" where I live. At the end of primary school we had a school disco to which I was dragged kicking ans screaming (literally). I spent all of it sitting in a corner and drawing pictures of ponies. I reckon that if we did have proms/homecomings I wouldn't go to them.

I went, but a large reason was because my prom was AT the place that I worked. So it was pretty fun to just mess with my co-workers because I was a customer. It was good to recieve my boss' service for once, rather than orders.

The prom itself is very overrated though..I agree that it just wasn't that important and isn't a big deal. I just sat there most of the time. But I guess it doesn't matter now because I don't really talk to anyone from HS anymore, not even my date.

As for homecoming...If I ever recieved a letter for that or a reunion, I'd probably wipe my ass with it.

I'm homeschooled, so I never had the chance. But I always thought that it waste a waste of time anyway; spending all the time and money on one night.

Could just be sour grapes, though.

I left school the year I was supposed to graduate, so I never went to prom. I could have gone the year I actually did graduate but I didn't know many of the people in that year, so I thought it would be boring. I kind of feel like I missed out, but it's not a huge deal to me.

I didn't go to prom. There was no point anyways. I had more fun at home with the Simpsons, Family Guy and Garfield then I would've had at a stupid prom.

In my senior year, I moved to a new high school and I felt there was no point in going to prom, since I never really made a connection with the people in just one year. Instead, I went to my old school's prom, where I had all my friends and it was a BLAST!!!

I don't think it's a big deal if someone doesn't want to go to prom, it's their choice. And if they're not excited about, they shouldn't be forced.

In high school, I went to homecoming in 9th grade, thinking it would be fun (it wasn't), and in 12th grade (I'm not sure why... it wasn't fun). I didn't have a date either time.

I didn't go to my 11th grade prom. I didn't have a date. A week or two before the prom, my friend in another state invited me to visit her for the prom weekend and meet one of our favorite bands at a record store by her house. I am SO glad I didn't go. I didn't go to my 12th grade prom, either- I didn't have a date and I really didn't have any friends at my high school, so I had no interest in going.

I didn't go to homecoming because I didn't see the point and I didn't go to prom for 2 reasons. 1. Dressing up and going to dances are NOT my thing and 2. I was recently diagnosed with acid reflux disease and I felt sick that night. It's a good thing I didn't go though because apparently a lot of people got sick from the Shirley Temples. I did go to after prom though, it was ok and it was fun staying up until 4 AM. We had a stupid theme though.

My younger sister didn't go to either while she was in school. I went to both homecoming and prom my Jr. and Sr. years. Jr. year, both were with girlfriends which was the main reason I went. I wasn't planning on going to Homecoming my Sr. year, but I was a finalist for Homecoming King so I needed to be ready to go, so I just went with a good friend of mine. Sr. year, I asked my date out at the end of the night for Prom, so Prom was kind of a means to an end, haha. I did have fun, though. We only went to the dance long enough to take pictures. All they were playing as far as music was rap, and none of us really liked rap, so after pictures we left ate dinner, and then went bowling in our prom outfits, which was ALOT of fun.

had to reply to this, some people don't like going out, i personaly hate going out in crowds and school was crappy, i'm much more content and happier sitting and watching tv,although i can think of more fun things to do then both prom and tv.

i suffer with anxiety and social phobia, another reason i don't enjoy going out.

Ok, it's true, people with no/few friends are unlikely to enjoy prom.
But I think you'll find that is the minority that don't really connect with anyone throughout there many years of school
Also - most people do not have anxiety and social phobia. So I'd say you're in the minority of people.

Hey, that's cruel. Why should we go out of our way to defend the popular kids when it's them that are the assholes? So what if she has social phobia- that's why people come on TH for advice.

I went to 2 dances in 8th grade, 1 in freshman year, and was forced to go to 1 more in sophomore year. The first 3 were okay, but the sophomore one sucked. I don't really plan on going to my own school's prom, but if someone else asked me to theirs, I'd gladly go. I like getting away from my own school to hang out with my friends from other schools.

Meh, I have given up on dances since 11th grade. I might go to my senior prom but it is really garbage.

Nah, I'd rather go and party alcoholically with my friends in a backyard instead of awkwardly talking in a loud, cheesy room wearing expensive, crappy clothes. Dances aren't something you are supposed to enjoy yourself at, you shrug your shoulders and go along with it because your girlfriend enjoys looking 'glamorous' and small-talking with her friends about how much fun this dance is.

Ok, well you just called me an asshole just because I'm able to make friends - does that not make you cruel?

How are popular people assholes? The ability to make yourself well liked is an important skill that is overlooked a fair amount. If you can make yourself well liked with your age group, you get good friends. With teachers, good references and good support with work. With Universities, they offer you places. Within a work environment, you get promotions and pay rises. Being popular does not make you an asshole, being popular means that you're able to communicate well and connect with people. It's a major advantage. Admittedly there is the odd jerk, but certainly at my college, you wouldn't be popular or well liked if you weren't generally nice to people.

I was not critising anyone personally at all. But it really is the minority of people who will go through several years of high school without connecting with a few people. And only the minority of people have social phobia. This was not a personal attack, this is drawing attention to the fact that this person's situation really is not the situation that most people are in. We're also not in a support thread, we're in a school and colleges section. I specifically don't go into the support threads because I don't believe in sugarcoating what I say to the degree that a lot of people here seem to require.

I've gone to homecoming every year so far (I'm a junior), and I went to prom for kicks last year, but it was lame. I'm really considering skipping my junior prom. a lot of the people in my grade are lame.

I haven't gone to a single high school dance... but I hate school dances. I've gone to dances for camp staffers but never school dances.
