No work ethic! - November 22nd 2009, 07:24 AM

Okay, so, I feel really horrible with school work.

I have practically NO work ethic, and it really bothers me. Like, I know I need to do it, but when it comes right down to it, I just cant seem to do it! Im pretty much failing two of my three classes, and everytime I tell myself, "Okay, time to apply myself!" When I get right down to it, I turn on the computer to start my Spanish, or get my math book for Algebra, its like all motivation to do it just dies. I always end up thinking, "Screw it, I can do this later."

Its just so frusterating that for some reason, I cant apply myself, and I keep doing badly on reports and everything because no matter what I do, I get lazy and just cant apply myself. When I try, I get frusterated because I dont understand anything, even when I pay attention in class. Is there anything I can do?

Is it enough to love?
Is it enough to breathe?
Somebody rip my heart out,
And leave me here to bleed!
Is it enough to die?
Somebody save my life
I'd rather be Anything but Ordinary please!

I'm sorry! That sounds very frustrating. Have you always had this problem? If not, is there anything that's happened recently that might be causing this?

Also, have you been evaluated for ADHD? I don't know your whole story, but getting evaluated might be a good idea. Ask a school counselor if they offer testing and counseling for that sort of thing or if they could recommend someone.

As for the meantime, what works for me when I start feeling lazy is first allowing me some free time before I start my homework. That way I can get some stuff "out of my system" before devoting my full attention to my homework. Then I schedule some breaks throughout my homework/studying time. That way I can reward myself for focusing and also keep my brain fresh. This is something you could try.

But definitely look into the ADHD thing. I have a few friends in their mid-twenties who recently got diagnosed with ADHD and they had similar stories to yours.

Good luck!
