Moving for work? - December 5th 2009, 02:36 AM

I just recently finished my post-secondary education and have been looking for a job for the past couple weeks. I finally got a response from somewhere I sent a resume, the problem is that it's in Estevan, Sk.
For everybody who doesn't live around here (which is most likely everybody who reads this) Estevan is 900km away, that's a 9 hour drive IF I speed. It's a small town near the North Dakota border on the Canadian side.
I haven't even got a time for the job interview yet as I need to get my certification to work near Di-Hydrogen Sulfide first. I'm not sure if I want to move that far or not yet. I would have to buy a truck, rent a place, I'd be on my own for the first time. Not to mention it's a small town and I've lived in big cities for most of my life. The job would consist of being on the road A LOT, and outside a lot, which I don't mind so much.

The real problem I have is I'm an apprentice. Estevan is in the next province over, and where I start my apprenticeship I'm supposed to stay the whole time. That means if I move to Estevan to work I would have to stay in that province for four whole years, and I'd be stranded if this job disappeared and I couldn't find a new one.
I guess what I'm wondering is if you guys would move for work in my situation? Nobody seems to really be hiring where I'm living and it seems like right now there are a lot of jobs in Saskatchewan.

Another problem I have is that most of my dad's family, which is the family I'm close to, lives in the Donnelly, Ab area. To put this into perspective, that's 1,400km from Estevan.
I know most of you are from the UK, so 1,400km is longer than driving from the northernmost tip of the UK to the southernmost tip. Would you move that far away from your family for a job?
