Nothing. Of course there needs to be a certain amount of censorship when it comes to daytime TV and age certificate's on films but as things stand they are fine as they are. Several studies have shown that instead of increasing violence the violent movies/games actually reduce violence by providing a substitute for real violence.

I hope that helps.

I do think that there are a lot of violent video games, but sometimes we just get immune to the violence and don't really think anything of it anymore. I don't really believe that video games necessarily influence violence though..

Eventually I believe people will run into all these things, with guns, and fighting sometime in their lifetime. So I don't really think its a big deal

Can the Government really do anything about the media showing Violence. The 'News' for example is a source of Media, and generally the 'News' always has some sort of war to report on - people are forever seeing violence, children are being brought up to learning and understanding the causes of Violence. I guess if the media were restricted to giving straight facts, and not bending peoples words etc, that would be better.

Hope this helps.

Video games are too violent today

1

Teenagers spend too much time playing video games

4

Violent video games are the cause of violent teenagers

2

Violent video games cause aggression

2

Video games influence people's lifestyles

4 - But I'm confused. Do you mean "influencing" by taking a video-game esque lifestyle and learning morals and such from them, or organizing their own lives around the act of playing video games?

The increasing number of violent video games on sale is becoming a problem in society.

1

Bans and censorship on violent video games are an effective way to reduce violence in society

1

The government should have tighter controls on violent video games

1

What, if anything, do you think the government should do about media representation of violence?

Nothing, it's fine the way it is. The government has NO right telling me what I can and cannot handle (gives evil eyes to Australian Government).

The rating system works as it is, and I notice stores are finally enforcing this (I actually get carded nowadays when buying M rated games. Woah.).

But then again, if we had just restricted violent video games before the Holocaust maybe we could have prevented it..

I live in the US which could skew your results a bit? Just thought I'd point that out since it looks like you're from the UK. ^_^

Video games are too violent today 3

Teenagers spend too much time playing video games 4

Violent video games are the cause of violent teenagers 1

Violent video games cause aggression 3 (They have the capilbility to? Like the Bobo doll experiment, but I don't think they always do and I don't think they're the sole cause.)

Video games influence people's lifestyles 2

The increasing number of violent video games on sale is becoming a problem in society. 1

Bans and censorship on violent video games are an effective way to reduce violence in society 1

The government should have tighter controls on violent video games 1

I don't think the government should do any more than they're doing now with media representation of violence. Unfortunately, violence is in our world and it's impossible to censor it all. And what would count as violent to them? They could say Swiper taking Dora's possessions is violent and decide Dora the Explorer is too violent. I don't trust my government enough to make a reasonable decision regarding media representation of violence even if I did think it was needed.

What, if anything, do you think the government should do about media representation of violence? I think that violent movies, video games, etc. sometimes promote using violence as a solution to certain problems. I don't think this is as big of a problem with teenagers but I think the government should have some kind of policy that prevents young kids from being able to use violent video games. Kids below a certain age shouldn't be permitted to buy certain video games, for instance. I don't think that would prevent a lot of the violence that happens in the world but I think it would prevent at least some of it, especially in adolescents.

Now I just need you to answer this question for me

What, if anything, do you think the government should do about media representation of violence?
Since my answers to the last two questions may seen conflicting, I will explain. I do not think that bans and censorship are really the way to go- as we have the freedom of choice and speech in this country and that is why we are a free country. It is completely up to an adult to buy whatever kind of game they please. Now, the last question I answered was my feeling on government's controls on who can get these games- the rating system may need to become tighter so underage kids cannot get their hands on violent video games- but adults shouldn't have to abide by the censorship. I believe that we need more education on the situation. We need to educate our children that violence is not the answer, and these movies and video games are showing them that it is ok. By learning this from a young age they grow up to accept it as part of society and can possibly act out because they learned it was acceptable. So- more education on how children can get their aggression out positively, and not violently- even if it is a fake violence it is still teaching them it's ok.

If any of that made any sense ^^'

Video games are too violent today - 2

Teenagers spend too much time playing video games - 7 --- depends on the teen. but from my experience, i see my younger brother (15) CONSTANTLY playing video games when not at school or sports.

Violent video games are the cause of violent teenagers - 2

Violent video games cause aggression - 3

Video games influence people's lifestyles -6

The increasing number of violent video games on sale is becoming a problem in society -3

Bans and censorship on violent video games are an effective way to reduce violence in society - 2

The government should have tighter controls on violent video games - 4

Can the Government really do anything about the media showing Violence?

- I honestly don't think that would go over well. Everyone knows about violence and it's a part of life. If people don't become aware of the violent dangers.. then worse things could come about then already have.
