Hypocrite boss - December 17th 2009, 09:48 PM

I love how hypocritcial some bosses are in the retail field..

So..at my store we have to sell useless items that no customer buys usually..

I'm told to try sell them whenever ringing people up.. (I'm a cashier.and wanting to be a floater again)
But I find it almost funny whenever that boss or a supervisor rings people up they never ask the customer if they'd like to buy that item.

Hypocritical or just doing his job?

That's hypocritical to me because even though they are the supervisors or boss, they are doing the same thing you are......If they want people to buy the useless stuff so bad then they should be trying to sell too. I used to work at a store like that except my supervisors were lazy and made the rest of us work our asses off even if there was only one other person in the store. Alot of bosses in retail are like that that's why they work their way up to a top position......so they can be lazy and hypocritical without consequence.

Well, I call most of it useless because everytime I have asked..I'm either said,"Not today"I'm diabetic" and loads more comments by customers.

Mainly it's candy, batteries, etc..

I'm not angry or need any major advice really.

I hate how darn lazy managers and supervisors are in retail.. I so can't wait to complete my degree in special education teacher.

The supervisor at the school I want to apply at is very nice.
I went to the same school actually whenever I was in HS

He has a different job to you so why should he do his job as well as yours? =/ I thought this would be basic knowledge really, I mean you both have different job descriptions, which is why he/she gets paid more =/

It's retail. She's ringing people up.......he's ringing people up. It's not really a different job just more responsibilities if you ask me.

The next time you see them ringing someone up without asking them to by the "useless stuff" politely say "I thought we were supposed to be asking customers to buy this stuff." and see what he/she says. If they say "Well it's not in my job description." then maybe he/she is just doing their job.

And it's still a different job description, so technically different job... and it'd mean him taking on extra responsibilities, and why should he have to?

It doesn't matter really as when I was hired I was told EVERY employee even managers were to use the cash registers.

It doesn't matter if he/she asks or not..that's the whole point of 'team work' not just having every employee on a cash register asking. (who has cashier in their job title anyhow)

It shouldn't just be my job and every other employees job at the front register to suggest sell these items to customers.

It's a small store and only has I believe 4-5 different cashiers who are assigned to it anywhom. I mean, employees who float can cover our breaks and such
