Thumbs down [Rant] Ray Bradbury misses his own point!! - January 7th 2010, 06:41 AM

I'm reading Fahrenheit 451 for school, and I pretty much love it. But upon learning Bradbury's real motivations for writing the book, I kind of feel sick. He's a total hypocrite. He criticizes close-mindedness and condemns people who are easily offended, saying that books are the cures for such problems.

But then he goes and criticizes technology (like TV and computers), saying they're harmful and a waste of time...which is exactly what the antagonists of Fahrenheit 451 say about books! He fails to take into account that the written word is an invention, just as computers and TV are, and that novels were once held under as much speculation as the internet is now.

Blargh. Oh well. I get to write my opinions about his political views, etc., for homework. It's been fun so far. I'm being diplomatic. (And by diplomatic, I mean that I compared him to Rush Limbaugh.)
