At some point in my life, I want to work in a daycar - February 9th 2010, 03:11 AM

Hey, so I love children, but I'm not ready for any of course, I'm only 17, but at some point in the future, I'd like to work in a daycare center and work with children. I was wondernig what requirements, degrees and/or training they require to apply. Any personal experiences?

Probably a CPR and first-aid classes but I doubt you'd need to have a college or university degree, possibly a high-school degree or a GED would suffice. You'd get a criminal background check though. Hopefully have on your resume some experience with kids, such as baby-sitting just so it shows you're not completely clueless what to do with kids. It's not a job that will make a lot of money, it's a dead-end job and if you plan to have it as your sole job, don't expect to get wealthy doing so unless you happen to own a business that gets wealthy with this. But if you want to go for it, then go for it.

Hey there! I recently applied to a daycare. You have to have a highschool degree/GED, be at least 18 years old, have two years (2400 hours) of documented experience from families, and criminal background checks. They prefer people who are in school with an Early Childhood Education major, or something similar. I really wanted to do that, but I realized that it's not a very good long term career because of the money. If you don't care about that or just want to do it for a summer job, then go for it!!! Good luck. PM me if you have any questions.

There is always hope. PM me anytime.

Some kind of degree in Early Childhood Education would be very helpful. My younger sister will be finishing her A.A. in Early Childhood Ed. soon, and that is what she wants to do. Alot of places don't necessarily require it, but it can come in handy.

i work in a preschool 5 days a week, in england its different, you need like a level 2 in childcare and then you need a crb check (police check) and the pay aint very good, i thought when i first started working in a preschool that it would be just playing with the kids ect but its not theres loads more than jjust playing with the kids.
