I Want To Move Out .. - February 15th 2010, 11:38 PM

Okay, so I got accepted into university for the fall, while I'm happy, I'm already stressed.

The university is 30 minutes away .. and when I ask her how I'm going to get there, she says she's going to drive me. Yeah, there's a problem, she works at 8 in the morning. I feel like this is going to be a problem. She refuses to let me get my license because her insurance rates will go up, so I have zero indepence in getting myself to school.

I found an apartment that costs $700 a month, that includes utilities and internet. It's a two bedroom place, and my friend said he's willing to move in and pay half the rent. It's a 10 minute walk from my university, PLUS I already have a job if I want it that's within walking distance of it as well.

I don't understand why she refuses to let me move out. I can't do anything by myself. I have money saved up and I'm a good budget-er. I just want my indepence, and I feel like I'm not going to have any .. A university student being driven around by her parents, that sounds so lovely. Should I just move out against my mom's will or tough it out until I'm done university ..

Personally, I'd move out against her will, staying at home would ruin your whole University experience, you'd also end up resenting your mum so I doubt it would do your relationship any favours. You are an adult now and your parents cannot control your every move. I wouldn't just up and go though, I'd explain the situation to her, tell her you'll answer any questions, put across your point of view calmly but firmly. She won't like it but I think given time she will probably get over it.
