Graphic Design Portfolio - February 17th 2010, 01:05 AM

Right, I have an interview on thursday for a graphic design apprenticeship, but I need to take with me a portfolio of work and I don't have one!
I've never studied graphic design or art, only media studies, and I don't have a lot of print work I can use.
Do you have any ideas I could use that would be quite simple, quick, yet would be impressive? I've been fiddling with photoshop all night and haven't designed anything that great so am starting to worry now that I won't have anything impressive to put in this portfolio!
Any ideas will be great!

Use the print work that you do have. If you are trying for a job in graphic design, but never taken any classes in graphic design, you need to be realistic about your chances of being hired there.

If there is anything I would suggest is to look online for simple designs to use for your portfolio. The Internet is a great resource - there's always a lot of information there so you should be able to find something.

Good luck!

maybe you can get all your media work onto a cd or flash drive and make a digital portolio? and you can have a hard copy of the print work you've done on the side. good luck

From what I know when I go to college for graphic design our end portfolios will include a few things like:
-Wrapping paper design
-CD cover art
-Anything Photography related
-Photoshopping designs
-Any drawings and sketches
-Basically any paper artwork you have done

Digitally for a portfolio it can include:
-If you do web design, the website you designed
-If you have fiddled around with animation, add that

Honestly, just be you and throw in any work you have done that may be impressive.
If you you have skills for working with specific programs such as Flash, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc. Then do little sections of the work you have done in those programs.

Anyway, just some ideas.

I wish the best of luck to you!

I'll do whatever it takes to be the mistake you can't live without.

Thanks for all your help, I had the interview a few days ago now.
I managed to put together a portfolio and I said told them that I had only made it in a couple of days, but was told it was good for a first attempt. I feel the interview itself went okay although it was my first ever am not entirely sure!!
One in ten chance I've got it and find out on wednesday!
Thanks for the luck!
