Insurance Choice? - March 7th 2010, 12:41 PM

I'm totally confused as whether to accept an offer from Queen Mary's or Essex for my UCAS insurance choice.

Any opinions on these uni's !?!?

Have they given you the same offer? I'd firm the lowest offer if not.

Essex is not in london so will be cheaper to live there?

According to the Times Queen Mary is #36 and Essex is #43 but check for your subject.

Have you gone and looked around both? Talked to current students? Looked at the course structure for both? Which one did you like the sound or feel of best?

Out of curiosity where have you firmed and what are you studying? Might be best to PM me though, at least I would PM but only because I fear stalking ;P

+ Queen Mary's is alot higher in linguistic league tables.
+/- Although London is more expensive, i get a bigger student loan to accommodate it
+ If i study in London i have a big support system as the majority of my family live and work in the city.
- Queen Mary's ask for a B in English Literature (fine) and 300 points overall (also fine), but the tariff has to be obtained from a-levels grade C and over (getting a C in psychology = ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!). I've been predicted a C, but it's SO fucking hard this year and i'm terrified i won't get that.
- I've visited Essex and really disliked the campus, atmopshere and the accommodation was a bit all or nothing. There was no middle ground in price range/quality.
+ Essex asks for BB (one of them being in English Lit) and states nothing about the other UCAS points coming from grades C and above.
- Queen Mary's campus is set in Mile End (so a fairly rough area)
+ However has a huge range of accommodation

Eurgh i don't know!
I'm aiming for Kent which asks for AB and 320 points

If you don't think you can get the C, don't put it down, because you'd be risking ending up having to go through clearing if you don't get the grades. I have a feeling clearing will be hellish this year.

Do you like Essex as a Uni? As in, would you enjoy spending 3 years there? If yes, I'd go for Essex.

It's your choice though, I can tell by your post that you are leaning towards QM, so it's up to you if you want to take the risk or not. There are 13 weeks till the exams so plenty of revision time! Note to self: start revising.

Good luck
