Exclamation Is It Too Late? - March 19th 2010, 10:06 PM

I've been in an online/private school for most of the year now, and I won't lie: the school I'm in is HORRIBLE for me. It's the worst thing that's ever happened to me education wise. It really is. It might be good for other students, but there's no way I can possibly graduate with this school. I just...can't. And I can't tell you how many emotional breakdowns/meltdowns I've had since I started.

Right now, I'm in three math classes (YAY). And I can't learn math online. I just...can't. I've come to the conclusion that I have learning problems. Of course, my mom would freak out if I tried to tell her that, so that's why I haven't.

All of the other classes I can handle online. But math classes I just CAN'T.

The grades are decided by online tests and quizzes that can only be taken once, and by the very rare written assignment that you scan and turn in. And they're timed.

Even when I pay attention to the classes. Even when I do all the freaking steps in the equations, I can't get the right answer. And it's ruining my entire life! I thought things were going to go better this semester, but they aren't.

What I want to know is...is it possible to switch to a public school this late in the year?

I've wanted to go to the public school near my house since we moved here, and I told my mom, but she enrolled me into the private school anyway. And early in the year, I think it was only a few days into the school year, I was already having breakdowns, and seriously considered asking my mom to put me in that other school. But I chickened out because of how strongly she insisted on this private school. Now I just wish that I HAD gotten up the courage up. Then I might not have been as screwed over as I am now.

Another huge problem is that the work won't stop piling up. I get stuck on these math courses, so I HAVE to skip some of the day's work to study because if I just rush and do the day's work when I'm stuck, I will definitely fail the quiz and ruin my grade. But by the time I get the material down and complete that quiz, I have 4 or 5 other quizzes now piling up on me as a result. I'm too slow for the courses.

I definitely wouldn't think it's too late in the year to be switching. I've known people who have even switched schools a month before the school breaks up for summer! The best would be to have a chat with your mom, and with both schools, and see what agreement you can come to.
Good luck!
