Exclamation CRB Check - April 13th 2010, 10:26 PM

I'm applying for jobs, and in the lne of work that I'm looking at, I would need to undergo a CRB check. I've had one before previously and I know what they're about, that's not the problem.

About a year ago, me and an old mate got done for shop lifting (don't comment, I know :/ ). And I don't 'think' I was convicted, I wasn't taken down to the station or anything like that. I just chose to have a £80 fine rather than do anything more.

My question is, will this show up on a CRB or an Advanced CRB? I'm looking into working with children, so a CRB is needed.

I have already looked online, but I just wondered if anyone could give me a clear answer. I don't want this to hinder my chances of getting the job I desire. And I don't fancy my mother finding out!

I don't want to have to admit to it on the CRB, for them not to find out on the other end, and admit it for no reason. It's been over a year, and I don't want this to hold me back. It's a horrible thing and I regret it immensely.

So, any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks.

If I were you I would go down there yourself and sort it out, like do it where you need to go to have the CRB check done. They should tell you if it's on there or not.

And I will take you in my arms, and hold you right where you belong.
Til the day my life is through, this I promise you.121109

^ They can't just tell you. You have to contact your local police force and fill in a form and pay ten quid. This will tell you what your loca police force have on record about you, you also have to request national information if you want to know what would be on your CRB clearance.

But yes, I think it will show up. You chose to pay the fine, ie accepted guilt, did you not at least get a caution as well? I would have thought you'd get a caution or reprimand.

If this happened before you were 18, it may have been removed from your record when you were 18 (if it was ever there at all).

I don't know whether having a caution or somthing for shop lifting would stop you from working with children. It's not violent or anything like that so perhaps it won't?

Explain a Caution and reprimand?

It happened when I was 17, I'm 18 now. But my choices were to go down to the station and get DNA'd and put on record or what not, or I could have the fine and go. So I would assume that i paid the fine for it to not go on a criminal record?

I don't think it would stop me from working with children, but I would just like to know if it would be seen.

The only way you can know that is to contact your local station and fill in all the forms.

It's great for you I know, but I think it's pretty terrible people can get caught breaking the law but PAY for it not to go on their record!?!

But I suppose it's only a minor charge, and it was my first time doing anything wrong. So being let off with a fine seems okay to me.

Re: CRB Check - April 14th 2010, 04:03 PM

My school's running a youth club and sixth form students are going to be running it so we have to have CRB checks too.

We had a guy come in and talk to us about them and if they do have a record of you shoplifting I don't think it will count against you as he said only serious crimes would stop us working in the youth club. His direct words were "don't worry if you have something on there like smoking cannabis, it won't affect you being able to work here only something serious like you being a paedophile would"

I'm assuming it'd be the same for where you're working but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm guessing it wouldn't stop me working with children, I just don't want people to know about it. I don't want to have to deal with it, you see.
