Fire Department - April 14th 2010, 05:12 PM

So, I'm in a bit of a bind.

I'm an EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) currently, but can't get a job in this area as one. I'm going to school for my EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) for 6 months starting in August.

I have applied to my town's volunteer fire department. I wrote the exam yesterday and the interview is next week and then the physical stuff (if I get past the interview that is).

Anywho.. so the training is going to take about 6 months (for the fire department), which sucks... but here's the thing:

Obviously, I have to tell them that I am going to be away for school (seeing as it's 4 days on, 4 days off, this isn't a huge deal)... however... I'm supposed to be moving in with someone (where my school is, which is an hour away) but I want to work in the town I'm currently in... and in order to be on the fire department I have to live in the town I'm currently in.

Should I just tell the fire department when they phone me that I have decided it's just not going to work? Or should I cancel my other plans?

Depends on what your plans are. If your other plans would suit you better over the long term; then you should probable cancel. I mean you have not gotten the job yet, so it is not like you are backing out of a contract/job or anything.
