Job reference for a CV - April 15th 2010, 04:10 PM

I have a problem. My sister is my employer :/ She's the stewardess of the pub/club I work in. So, is she allowed to write me a reference? Or will someone else in a high position there have to write me one?

I'd say someone else would have to write you a reference since they'll think that because it's your sister she may be being bias.

That's what I was worried about Couldn't she just not mention anything about being a relative? Obviously we have the same last name so it will look slightly dodgey (then again my last name isn't that uncommon)

That would be illegal if you did that.

If the application tells you that relatives are no acceptable, maybe have her report to a higher up and have him/her write what she might say? Some applications will allow relatives, just read closely. If you're that concerned maybe call in and ask? And if you decide to have her write a reference than just have her explain that yes she is your sister, but at work, she is simply your employer?
