Too much - May 4th 2010, 09:42 PM

I'm only 13 but i feel so frustrated with work at school. I'm repetitively smart and excel in English, Im in the accelerate classes for, maths, english and science. Most people think that i am naturally very smart and I do little work, (for english this is true.) However I failed my science exams and i have resits coming up soon. I revised really hard for the exam and i was gutted when i did badly. People dont understand i have to work at it. In maths ive been seeing a tutor privately for 4 years once a week for an 1hr 30 mins. Im still bottom in my set.

I feel like i'm drowning from all the pressure and the constant exams, as i have other in other subject which I am taking early. I want to go to Oxbridge, although im not clever enough i still would like to have a shot and i know i must get all A's. Even if I dont get in i will have done my best. Im scared the results i get now at this young age will effect my future and if i muck up i will not succeed.

The thing that is scaring me most is that im starting not to care any more....

Hi,

I am at university at the moment in my second year and I am feeling the same as you, I am constantly working for 8 hours a day revising notes etc so I know how stressful it can all be.

But, you are only 13 at the moment and for university GCSEs barely count (although they usually ask for Maths and English for Uni and help you get into college) so stop stressing out as much.

My GCSEs & Sats mean nothing to me now. Although, Im not saying stop trying your hardest- you should always do that! So keep trying hard but maybe give yourself a bit of a break because at 13 I know I wasn't working as hard as you seem to be and I got good A Levels results ( I have to work hard for good results too.) Enjoy your childhood while it lasts because I can assure you- uni is HARD work!

Unless if things are different between here as they are in England, I don't think that grades at the age of 13 will affect what school you get into. Maybe see if you can slow down on the classes that you're taking? You do still want to try and get good grades, but don't stress yourself about it. Good luck

Grades at 13 wont effect you much at all. trust me. i wish i knew that when i was 13

Also I have seen some people stop developing properly socially because they were so caught up in school work. I also have seen many people get very sick because they were up late studying most nights and were overly stressed. That can take a huge toll on your body
The important thing is to live life.

Put forth effort in school but dont over do it.
Then kick back and relax
Be healthy and happy and everything will work out
