Question Is My Teacher A Smartass? - October 2nd 2010, 04:00 AM

"The tidbits you mention miss the several of the key arguments, but your summary was, on second thought, adequate. This is definitely a subject that will return on the midterm so I'll let this one go (?). I've changed your grade."

"Actually, the first 5 items are due tomorrow (He corrected the number of items I had listed) and only one of them is from a book so links to the other 4 have been available for three days. I can't remember where I posted the color coding but that will help you in future (He clearly posted it). The full semester assignment sheet may also help is showing what is due when. Anyway, did you have a question?" (Maybe you're just pissed off I'm asking questions?)

I feel like my online teacher is either a smartass, thinks I'm an idiot, or doesn't want to deal with me. What's up?

Geek? Nerd? More like intellectual badass.

"You ran through Africa, and Asia, and Indonesia.. And now I've found you, and I love you. I want to know your name."

He seems abrupt and to the point. I wouldn't say he's a smartass but without seeing what you posted/emailed him, it's a bit difficult to say for sure. For example, the last point where he said if you had a question for him, then you said in brackets he may be pissed you were asking questions, is hard to figure out if he's a smartass or not. Sometimes teachers/professors want specific questions so if yours were a bit vague, then they might ask for clarification. Some professors do get irritated though if people email them things that are already in the syllabus or already posted online or ask them a question containing incorrect information that is also in the syllabus or elsewhere. Only in first-year courses did they not get annoyed but in many second and third-year courses, it wasn't uncommon for them to basically respond with something along the lines of "read the syllabus, do you have an actual question?". May be the same here.

I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

^^ Agree, hard to tell without the context. If you are asking questions that you can find the answer to yourself then he kind of has the right to be irritated and a bit blunt. And regardless does it matter either way? Not really.

It's fine to be proud of it.
But please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around.
And PLEASE don't try and shove it down my throat.
