health leave - November 7th 2010, 04:40 PM

So, I'm almost done my first semester freshman year at college. I really love it here, but I am having a rough relapse with depression, ED, and self-harm. I'm not sure how long I can keep on here at school. I'm just having a really hard time functioning.

Health leave has been mentioned to me, but I just seem to view that as a failure. And it seems it would mess up my college schedule for the next few years.

Has anyone here ever taken a health leave? Half of me thinks it would be a good idea, to just have that extra support at home. The other half wants to stay here and be strong, but I'm not sure if it's possible. Also, I have a great team up here, so I'm really not sure.

Well...its really your choice.
I will tell you that it would probably work out with college. Lots of people take the whole year off. And most Ivy League colleges recommend that first-year students take the year off before coming.
Hope this helps!
Let me know what you decide!

I've been put on Mental Health leaves from school and work. In the end it paid off because I did better in those courses, and at work after having some time to get myself back together.

If you feel like you need a health leave to get yourself feeling a bit better, then that could be a good idea for you to do. I wouldn't feel bad about doing it, it'll help you in the long run.
