Job Anxiety? - December 19th 2010, 10:23 PM

Supposedly I have to get a job in the summer and I always feel uncomfortable with the idea of going to place to place lookin' for jobs. I actually get kind of scared, and I have this irrational fear that people are going to judge me. I don't know why. It makes me feel inadequate and pessimistic when I applied for jobs. "They won't hire me, but I'll just apply to this job just for the hell of it and look stupid."

Has anyone ever had this feeling? I don't have a lot of job experience...never really kept a job for more than a month. I don't know what it is. It's been bugging me for the past two years.

I have the same thing. I was good academically and picked up temporary jobs for the last year and a bit due to the fact that you dont need to apply or have interviews, and with the longest lasting 5 months and they all think I am great. But I cant make the transfer to a perminant job.

I have gone around places but end up walking on by thinking I cant do this. I freeze up on the few real interviews I have gotten, I dont have a special something that everyone would want but I work hard. But I cant work hard enough to find the new job. Heck, I dont even know what career I want to do. It is so frustrating.

Almost everyone I have ever known has had the same problem..It is basically fear of rejection....When I started as a salesman I was always worried about rejection when knocking on doors or entering business offices. One day I read some sales advice that asked so what? If you are outside and knock on a door where will you be if they turn you down for a sale..? Outside knocking on another door. (not really that bad). Another thing is that we should not take what we think is rejection personally.

I fake it. The one time that I have had a shot of rum was right before a very big test. If you can psych yourself out to believe that you are confident, it may help.
