Post techniques anyone? - January 20th 2011, 06:08 PM

Ok so basically - i'm in year 11 doing GCSEs this year. I'm not failing. In my mocks i got As Bs and Cs, but i need to get some up to a higher level. for example, science. i'm a B at the moment, but my target is an A, and i'm resitting my chem paper for the 3rd time. i just basically need ways i can remember the information and then get it down on paper when its needed, and get the A i need. i take (apart from the obvious, maths english and science) drama history graphics german and RE. any help on how to get better at these would be great.

I can give you some specific advice for science, and possibly some other things if you're a little more specific with me.

Chemistry is a surprising amount of memorization. However, if you try to learn chemistry by memorization, you will find it absolutely, terrifyingly overwhelming.

Take it back a step. Go up one metaphorical level.

Learn the concepts. Learn what happens, and immediately find out why. Learn the general rules and principles underlying everything. (I can be more specific if you're more specific about what kind of chem: solution chemistry, electrochem, orgo?)

Once you feel that you have a good grasp of those, then go back and try to memorize the details. You'll find it much easier.

I do Biology and Chemistry at A Level and I make posters of things I need to remember and stick them on my wall so I see them everyday and in the exam if I need to remember something I just picture my wall and it'll help it come back to me

For example, on my Chemistry wall I have equations what I need to remember etc.
And on my Biology wall I have tables and definitions that I need to know.

I always tend to do loads of past papers the week before the exams. You can usually find these on your exam board's website or ask your teachers if they have any

Hope this helps!
