Don't know what to do... :/ - January 25th 2011, 01:49 AM

So, I'm a sophomore in college and a broadcast major, not really sure what I want to minor in yet. Any who, last semester I took Russian 1. It was a small class and I had a really good time, I even got an a in the class. But now that we're back, it seems like I've forgotten EVERYTHING. And it feels like I'm the only one. ANd on top of that, our teacher has let four Bosnian students join the group. When she paired us up, this guy made me feel like an idiot, I had trouble reading and speaking and nearly broke down cry three times. So I started thinking about taking religions of asia with one of my friends instead and take french with my girlfriend, and I was all set up to do that, but my teacher called me a few hours after dropping the class wanting me to go talk to her in person. Now I feel super guilty cause this woman has been super nice to me. And I really don't know what to do, I just feel like Russian wouldn't really help me in the future, I just need help.

I'm assuming you're talking about a Russian 2 you're taking now, but you've dropped it.

Explain to your teacher about how you feel, that you didn't feel you would succeed in her class, and that you wanted to pursue other classes while in college. She may be disappointed because you possibly could have asked her for help and because you formed a good relationship with her. If you explain it to her, I think she would understand, and it's better to have the communication with her, instead of her wondering why you dropped, and you wondering how she feels.

It's nothing to feel bad about. I've felt that way in other classes, where I just did not get the material and I felt I had to switch out because it would have been detrimental to my GPA. In your case with the Bosnian students that have background in the language I presume, you shouldn't feel bad because they already have the experience to do well.

If it's really something you want to re-learn, you can always get back to it at a later date. If not, it's no big deal.

minoring doesnt do anything if it is not related to your career path. its just a waste of time and money.
