Change of careers - January 25th 2011, 02:19 PM

Basically, I've just been told that I can't get a job in care work until I've been mentally "stable" for at least 3 years. That was the only type of job I could ever see myself doing. So basically, anyone have any ideas on what I can do instead? (I can't stand admin and working in a shop doesn't pay enough)

When I got a job in care I had only been stable for about a year and since getting the job have had my relapses during that time. However, I guess I don't have contracted hours and only have to work when I want to.. So when I am not doing so well I won't work. You are from England so I would suggest you talk to someone like connexions? Perhaps look into doing some voluntary work in care because that will prove you are stable enough to do that kind of work.

I hope you do manage to find something.

Thanks for the reply, it made me feel loads better. I hadn't thought of connexions so I'll give that a go. I think I might go back to college and do some sort of health and social care course if I can get any financial help towards it. Until then, I believe ASDA is calling my name unfortunately. I'll definately look into doing voluntary work too.
