so much ressure on me! - February 26th 2011, 07:14 AM

im 15 and a freshman in highschool. and i have no idea what i want to be for sure when i'm done with highschool. it seems like literally EVERYONE knows wht they want to be, and in one of my classes this semester, thats pretty much the whle thing. and ive been writing so mch BS about everything. and i have a big variey of interests, so i dont know which path to folllow.
so basically, why does everyone know what they want to be but me?
and why do they put so much pressure on us? i get that its approaching fast, but being graded on this is making me rush and not having any time to think about it for REAL doesn't help me at all.
(edit) meant to say "too much pressure on me!"

You're at a truly awesome part in your life right now. This is when you can explore your options and start deciding. It sounds scary, but enjoying the search is really important. It could be worse--you could have NO interests at all, right?! I'd suggest going to see a guidance counselor if you're really stumped, as they have aptitude tests and such that can help you to find the job you're best suited for. In the end, though, make sure to always go with your gut. :] It won't steer you wrong.

It is very important to have a general sense of direction - a 'bottom line', if you will. Is there a quality or characteristic that is common to most or all of your significant interests? You may not know which path to follow, but can you think of a few that you'd definitely not want to follow? Identify an overall framework - this can be very wide or very specific, it really all depends on the person - and that's really all that is necessary.

As a society, our collective consciousness is perpetually lost in the future. Almost everything we do seems to be directed at some future state - but the 'future' is really only a mental projection. Life exists only in the present moment, and when we place too much focus into the past or the future, we miss out on what is most valuable - the value of each moment we are alive. Of each breath we take.

And when we are fully present, in each task and activity we partake in - without our minds being lost in attempt to envision a future, or the anxiety of failing to do so - insights will come naturally, through exploring all these interests deeply, one at a time.

"If limitations exist, it is because we have erased the possibility of potential."
