Applying for DSA (UK) - March 29th 2012, 06:43 PM

Hi

Just wondered if anyone else has applied for the disabled student allowance for university because of a mental health problem. My university told me that I need to apply for it if I want any support whatsoever or any contact with the mental health support workers. They helped me fill out the forms, I just need to get my evidence from my GP or CAMHS. I just never heard about it before so wondered how common this is? they said the costs can help pay for my support worker, pay for books if i struggle to sit in the library with others, pay for a taxi if i cant use public transport, pay for photocopying costs or computer equipments etc. Obviously I wont need every single thing but I guess it's useful. I just never see myself as "disabled", but they tell me they think it is wrongly named and confuses people with mental health probs.

Any other experiences?
