Longboarding. - January 5th 2010, 06:18 PM

I recently got really inspired by watching some longboarding videos. I was wondering if anyone on Teenhelp is into this at all? I'm really not flexible, haven't even been that physical for a while. But I feel like I would like to try this, I just haven't even been skateboarding before so I'm pretty scared, lmao. Any tips or anything? I'm not sure what kind of board beginners get. Man this is overwhelming but seems amazing to me. I also have noticed that there aren't many..tall longboarders. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Ha

naa, skateboarding is far too dangerous for someone as clumsy as me. it looks fun though.. maybe get someone to teach you who is pretty decent?.. or watch it on youtube and copy!. :]

I use to skateboard all the time when I was little, up until i made a bad fall. But if you haven't used a skateboard before, I suggest you start with a regular longboard and learn your basics. I seriously got my first one from Toys R Us. Really cheap. Practice on flat ground with learning your turns and how to start off on the board. Also, it is not how flexible you are, but balancing. I used to research on google for how to's. Try Youtube too. If you need any more help, let me know.

I used to do like 1 hour of the wave board a day, but I got to lazy. It is better than a skateboard because you don't have to push yourself with your foot, you can just go and go forever.

I have a mini longboard and I love it! They just give you a really easy ride. Maybe a mini would be best for beginning, I'm not sure. But mine is a Sector 9 if that's any help. Maybe check out a local shop and try some out?

Hey Beth,
I think if you're starting out, you should just ride around a bit, and get a feel of the board. Don't try to learn tricks until you feel confident with your balance. It may take a while to get your first trick, so don't give up even if it's frustrating! (I used to skateboard a while back and it took forever to get the first trick, but it's really rewarding! ) Be sure to keep practicing too.

If you know someone who's tried longboarding before, maybe you could get them to help teach you. If not, the internet is pretty helpful in giving some tips and how to's. Also, I know it may look a little dorky, but wearing a helmet is a good idea. It's really easy to lose your balance and you don't want to hit your head or anything!

Good luck! :]

I was wondering if it matters what kind of board I get..? I'm fairly tall and bulky so I wasn't sure about that too. Thanks so much for commenting everyone, I'm really taking all this in.

Maybe look for something like this: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...#ProductDetail

That one is a bit expensive but if you do some research, I bet you can find a much cheaper one.

Ohmy. I went to Toysrus today Briana. And I just stood on a few they had out to test and I got so nervous. I was so off balance just barely standing on it. I didn't even buy anything I got so overwhelmed. But they were regular length. Man I don't know like how to build up to this. Cause I've only done like running sports, basketball, softball, lacrosse, etc.

Okay I will. Just feel like I can't do it already! But I'm looking around for something cheap.
