I'm not a sk8er boi [sic]

I prefer to keep both feet on solid ground tyvm. If I tried I'd end up on my ass far too often

Re: Ice Skating - March 1st 2009, 06:37 PM

I was a figure skater from age 3-13, I personally did it for fun, and I absoultly LOVED it. Keeping fit was just a plus, and technically keeping fit was more of something you had to work towards outside the rink in order to preform properly on the ice; in figure skating at least. I loved it though.

I think i'm going to move this to chit chat, it's not really general health, more opinions on it. Mods feel free to disagree and move it back/elsewhere.

Re: Ice Skating - March 1st 2009, 06:47 PM

Oh dear God no.
I have enough trouble on solid ground.

The one time I did try it was when I was 10 and it was a school holiday to Wales.
The first day of the holiday we went ice skating, all my friends skated away and left me clinging to the side. My teacher decided to help teach me to skate and I was starting to get the hang of it so I decided to try and skate from one side to the other half way across someone shouted me to congratulate me for letting go of the side, I turned to look and fell the boot dug into my leg breaking my shin.

I was taken to a scary Welsh hospital over night without my parents and was all alone.
I ended up in a cast for 13 weeks all through the summer and for my 11th birthday, it was a full leg cast for 6 weeks so I was in a wheel chair for the first 6 weeks and I started a new High School on crutches.
It was a complicated spiral fracture and they threatened to operate every week even after I had been in a cast for 13 weeks.

Even now it still hurts, it hasn't healed correctly because the hospital set my leg wrong and you can see and feel and lump where it has healed.

I agree it was a stupid idea for me to even try to ice skate considering I had already broke 5 bones and this was the worst out of all 6.

I will now not go anywhere near the ice and I am absolutely petrified of icy weather in case I fall.

I like to ice skate, for fun.

Also, on a side note, I've moved this to Sports and Entertainment as.. I feel skating is a sport? Feel free to move it back if you disagree.

I skate for fun. I've been to a couple of lessons before - that was funny! My friend has been having lessons since she was little and once said that I should go with her. That was fine. I got there and her and her two younger sisters were doing all these fancy tricks and turns, me on the other hand! I was put in a nice little class with people less than half my age just learning how to skate forwards I did learn how to do a 'pizza' though!

I even heard your mamma wanted some of this...
