There are quite a few things you can do. Try googling around to find some things, but I'll share a few that I like.
If you run in the morning, sleep in your running clothes the night before, so you don't have an excuse to not go when you wake up. Or if you don't want to sleep in them, have them laid out next to your bed or somewhere easy so they're ready to go. Also, when I run in the mornings, I find that it's much easier to get up and get out if I get out of bed as soon as I wake up. If you lie there, you'll realise how warm and comfy and lovely your bed is, and it makes it so much harder to get running ![]() Make your next run exciting. Get yourself something that makes you want to get out there. It doesn't have to be big or expensive. Maybe a couple of new tracks for the ipod to run to (if you like to run with music), or a new t-shirt especially for the event in July or something. Don't always stick to the same route. It gets really boring and stops you wanting to go. Plan new routes, alternate them. If you can, try finding someone to run with. It makes getting out a lot easier, since you don't want to feel like you're letting them down. If you're an evening runner, (like me at the moment) it can get difficult, since you have all day to talk yourself out of it and make up excuses. I find it helps to have a mindset of 'I'm going whether I like it or not', and getting my running gear out for later. Tell someone you're going to go running at -this time- today, and if you don't, get them to question you on it. There's nothing like a bit of guilt to get you moving Getting out the door is the hardest bit, you have to play games with yourself to get going, you just have to learn what works best for you. Good luck with training and the event

set realistic goals...if you're really tired one day, just go for a 1 or 2 km jog, don't try and do the whole 5 if you're not feeling up to it. When you push yourself too far and it feels bad, that makes it harder to get back out there the next day because you don't want that feeling again. Whenever I'm not feeling up for a long run I just go to a nearby oval and run 2 laps, then walk 2 laps, then run 2 etc etc. This way I don't exhaust myself, but still get some exersize in
I recommend going in the morning so you don't talk yourself out of it during the day like Bean said. If you need to wake up 45mins earlier than usual to do this, make sure you go to bed 45mins earlier at night. That way you'll get the same amount of sleep and it won't feel horrible waking up! Also remember that you don't just have to run...so if you're getting sick of training the same way all the time, try swimming, going to the gym, playing sport etc. The fitness you gain from these activities will help you with your run Good luck!

Find a friend to run with, even if they aren't training for the 5k. My best friend and I hold each other accountable for swimming pretty much everyday and a basic 3 times a week workout. If you have a friend, you don't want to let them down. Plus, it is fun to have someone to talk to. It can make a life-long friendship! It also is fun to make healthy foods together.
Hope you do awesome in your 5k. |
