a few different things... -
January 31st 2011, 06:21 PM
Okay, I have a few questions/things I would like some help with. If you could help me with anything, then that would be awesome!!
First of all, on the subject of photography: I absolutely love photography, although at the moment I have a small digital camera. I love it, but I really would love a camera that I could get creative with. My current digital camera takes beautiful pictures, but I am looking for something else to also use (I don't want to replace my digital one, it's great for trips and times I just want to take a few pictures with friends). I was looking at the Nikon D90... and it looks amazing!! The only thing is that it's very expensive and I need first of all, some suggestions for how to save up for it, and secondly, any suggestions for something that is cheaper but still good quality. I would like for it to be a digital SLR... but if there is something that you think is honestly better than tell me! Secondly, I saw a thread from a while ago about a connection between artists and mental illnesses. I've been doing a lot of research on that lately.. just because I've been intrigued by it. I read a book, which I highly suggest you read, called "A Blue so Dark" (I forgot the author's name, sorry!) about a girl who's mother has schizophrenia. Her mother was an artist, and the girl was too, but she found a connection between the schizophrenia and art and she stopped doing it. It's a great book, but it really made me wonder about this. I used to have panic attacks, that have thankfully gone away, but I feel like there is something else and I'm not quite sure what. I'm an artistic person... I love sketching, painting, oil pastel stuff, photography, music (I'm a cellist and guitarist), writer (fiction & poetry) and I have an interest in fashion, architecture & interior design, film and many other things. If there really is a connection between these things... why?? And are we all at risk? I would really love to hear your thoughts. Not just what you're interested in and if you have any mental illnesses, but also your real thoughts on it. Also, lately I haven't felt very inspired. I would love to hear any of your ideas, what you like to do, and just anything. Any suggestions, favorite artists, really, ANYTHING!! Sorry for writing so much, art gets me very excited, and being a writer, I have a tendency to write too much Thanks!

I'm not much help on the camera part, sorry
But that thing you brought up about there being a link between mental illness and artistic expression is something I find very interesting. I think I'll look into that more. Inspiration for me comes from reading other people's poetry, things are irregular, and various kinds of art. Also, listening to music that's really...affecting...not just lyrics-wise, but in terms of the actual music seems to inspire me a lot too. I like to listen to Radiohead and the Arcade Fire when I'm writing. I'd love to read some of your writing, too if you wanna PM me.
"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it." |
