Who else finds tattoos and piercings to be an art form? - December 5th 2011, 11:19 AM

Tattoos are amazing when done well and can illustrate beautiful things in one's life. Piercing are just attractive to me.
I love body modification!
Does anyone share this same thought?

I feel as though today body modification is the trendy thing to do. A lot of people find it attractive since it's becoming the norm, rather than genuinely finding it attractive.
Like "OMG I TOTALLY WANT A TATTOO FOR HAVING A TATTOO" vs. really WANTING it.

Sorry, random philosophy.

As a self-injurer, I use my skin as a form of expression. I consider my skin a storybook. I don't have any tattoos right now considering I am a "broke-ass college student," but I really want half sleeves and some work done on my back as well as a few other places. I like the idea that even though I cause(d) so much damage to my body I can also put beautiful things there, too.

I don't get the appeal behind most piercings, can someone explain their thoughts on it to me? I guess "it looks cool" isn't enough of an explanation for me to want to get anything really besides my ears.

Becca. :]

I absolutely agree that tattoos can be a form of art. A great deal of thought often goes into a tattoo--people consider everything from the design and colors to the placement of the tattoo.Piercings on the other hand I don't consider to be a form of art, though I guess they are a form of expression and can be a part of someone's personal style.

I believe they are a way of showing your inner-self on the outside so yes in that way they are a form of art... However I think that they can also show yourself in that moment which on one side is good because it shows your past when you're older but on the other hand you can outgrow them and when wrinkley.. look gross!

I also think tattoos are an artform. But since tattoos are actual drawings it's not a vague connection to make at all. Piercings, not usually. although I saw a guy with a sleeve, with a skull in it, and in it's eyes were pierced jewels, that was art

Some piercings can go along with tattoos, like I gave the example above. Some people are addicted to things like tattoos and piercings I suppose. other than that, I don't know. I'm not willing to give up a job for a piercing, so all I have done are my ears. I also want a belly button piercing, but only to complete my hip tattoos.

Take me seriously.
I dare you.

I definitely think its a form of art that you can wear. Tattoos should mean something to you, and often they are a metaphor for something.

I really dont see how people cant see Tattoos as art. Thats like looking at a painting and saying its not art.

The tattoo gun is the brush and the body is the canvas. I belive that tattoos done right and with meaning behind them are more then just art the are something more to the person. I have 3 now and they all reflect who i am. Its almost like im wearing my personality on my skin.

I think that perceings should also be considered as an art form. Body mods are a very personal art form. I really believe that moding your body is not something you do to be different its something you do to really express yourself and wear your personality on the outside.

Tattoos are certainly an art form to the person who is doing the tattoo, and hopefully for the person receiving it, as long as they're not just doing it for them to look cool. The tattoos that have a meaning and a story behind them are the best, and they are so beautifully done, they're just wonderful. Same with piercings, they express who you are.

I have always loved tattoos and all the tattoos I am having drawn up at the moment all have a meaning or story connected to them.
Some of them are just for a little laugh but that is because I am a fun person and love comedic little things.
I have nothing against people who don't see tattoos as art.
But as what was said in another post - how can you look at paintings and see that as art but not tattoos. They are the same pretty much just on different surfaces.
Piercings just are another form of expression, I love the piercing I have and I am getting more. I have also started stretching my ears again, because last time don't figured out what I was doing and because he is against these kinds of things he made me take them out.

Tattoos are a beautiful way to express and individualize ones self. Literally wearing your heart on your sleave in some sense.

me too

I'm more a tattoo-type. I think it's a great way to express who you are and your uniqueness.
I've already thought of 5 tattoos, most of them are phrases. I love quotes and I want people to see and remember what I think, not just hear my opinions and then forget them after 5 minutes.

tattoos are apart of my being.
I really don't know what I would do if I wasn't able to express myself in such a way.

I view tattoos as an art form because it's pretty much like painting a canvas. Once you put the paint on and have it dry, it's not coming off unless you tear away at it, much like a tattoo. Also, tattoos signify meaning and creativity, whether the meaning is from words or a picture. On the other hand, piercings don't seem like an art form to me because getting your earlobe pierced signifies no meaning or creativity to me. It's like putting a nail in a piece of wood and calling it art. If that were the case, then carpenters would all be artists and could showcase their wood modifications in a museum or show. No doubt it's a body modification but that's like saying breaking a bone is art because you're modifying how the body looks, especially if the bone punctures the skin.

I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.
