U.S. Travel Ideas? - July 16th 2012, 01:17 AM

So, I live in the U.S., and we have two little spots to go for vacation this year. Next year though my mom wants to save up to actually go away on an actual vacation somewhere else in the U.S. She wanted me to look up places to go. Of course, my looking up involves getting recommendations from all of you lovely people. So far we've thought Tennessee for Dollywood, but I'd love some more suggestions.

My dad doesn't want to go to Disney this time of year so Florida's out. I live in CT and have gone to Massachusetts and New Hampshire enough already, and I'm going to Rhode Island this summer. I've also been to D.C. (Although it'd be cool to go back), Virginia, I THINK Vermont (not sure ) and New York City once.

But I'm open to suggestions, you travel agents.

New York City is always good. You could hit up Minnesota (Minneapolis a few days, and camping/fishing in northern Minnesota) if you are doing a summer trip. You could also go to Arizona... OOORRR you could go to Hawaii (what, it IS the USA haha, you never specified it having to be continental). Or you could go to California (LA?)

Like nature? Go to the Grand Canyon in Arizona! There's also amazing hikes and sites in Arizona in the Northern Arizona Area. Also very warm in the summer more south, so you can go to a nice resort in Sedona, get some spa treatments and hikes in. It's very awesome.

Arizona is insanely beautiful. I have an aunt that lives in like Tuscon I think, actually. Good excuse to go there.

The American Southwest is beautiful, and definitely worth seeing.

The area that Dollywood is in is really beautiful. I wouldn't spend all your time at Dollywood if you go there...I actually hear it's a tad bit disappointing. I've never been to Dollywood itself, but I've been to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area. It's really pretty out there. You can go hiking in the Smokies and it's really lovely, plus Gatlinburg has quite a bit to do. I thought I'd ramble about that since you said you guys were considering it

Nowwwww, if you didn't want to go tooo too far, then well...I'd say Philadelphia. I feel like Philly gets overshadowed a bit by NYC and DC, since it's smack dab in the middle of them. But, there's the historic scene, the arts scene, tons of awesome museums. Fairmount Park is huge and there are trails you can go hiking on. During the summer you can go down to Penn's Landing and rent kayaks or paddle boats and chillax on the Delaware. There's a lot of good food, and yar. Yay Philly!

Anddddd. I just got back from vacation in South Dakota. OMGOODNESS IT WAS GORGEOUS. Like, legit. We hung out in the Rapid City area and did a lot of exploring in the Black Hills. It's a great location. We made a day trip out to Wyoming to go to Devil's Tower. You can go to some of the old westernish towns like Deadwood if that's your thing. There's Mt. Rushmore and Custer State Park and Crazy Horse Monument and so much wilderness to explore and enjoy! It's really gorgeous out there. Like, I wish I could go back right now.

So. Uh. There's a few ideas for you. I could come up with a lot more, if you'd like.

Ironically, I was close by Cape Cod yesterday. In Plimoth.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

California has a lot of really cool things to do. I'm not sure what you guys are interested in doing, but there's so much here and I'm sure you'll be able to find something that fits the vacation you guys want.
