New York :) - June 1st 2013, 08:36 PM

Hey guys,

So in a couple of months, I'll be traveling to the east coast! I'm excited, of course, but we're trying to plan out the stuff we want to check out while we're in New York. We're going to see a broadway play, ground zero, time square, central park, all those places! But is there anything else that should be checked out? Like famous museums or other landmarks?

I'd love to hear your suggestions.

Please & thank you!

Re: New York :) - June 1st 2013, 09:05 PM

hey there,
I lived in NY for a while, this year will be 14 years I think, and I have to say, there's even places I haven't got to explore yet
I guess it all depends on how long you're staying here, but I'll name some places that might be of interest. It does feel a little strange, because I'm trying to think in a tourist's point of view
Also, I'm not sure if you're staying in Manhattan, but there are some cool places in the other boroughs.

central park, is a big one which you mentioned.
I heard of Governor's Island. Never been, but sounds cool
the Brooklyn Bridge, which is the bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan.
Statue of Liberty?
Coney Island, or another beach. It might be a good idea since it's warm weather now. But some beaches are still being repaired from Hurricane Sandy (still, I know ). Coney Island/Brighton Beach is opened though
there are tons of museums. A big one is Museum of Modern Art also known as MoMa.
Then there's Metropiltan Museum of Modern Arts, also known as the Met museum.
There are a few zoos lol. Bronx zoo is a big one.
There's Prospect park in Brooklyn.
that's all I can think of for now. There are more museums, but when I try to remember the names, a map of how to get there appears in my mind instead
Hope this helps :3
Edit:
I just remembered a few more
There are two botanical gardens. One is in Brooklyn across the street from Prospect Park. Another one is in the Bronx, near the Bronx zoo.
there's
Roosevelt Island
Bryant Park-it's close to the nyc library.
to be honest the nyc library has exhibits so it's sorta a museum.
For museums, there's:
Museum of Natural History
Police Department Museum
Native American Museum
Museum of the City of New York
Frick Collection Museum
Asia Society museum.
those are the ones I've personally been to.
I also found this, for a complete list of museums
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._New_York_City
I just realized I might be overwhelming you, I'm sorry if I am

AHHH that's an awesome list! Thank you so much! & Nah, not overwhelming at all. I added a lot of those to my list of places to go. Thanks again!

Any other suggestions are welcome as well. I have a couple of months.

How could you go past this? (Never been, but it sounds pretty cool.) And if you have a sweet tooth, try this. It's a cute place. Not exactly famous landmarks or historical or anything, but my knowledge of NY is limited.

I just was there a month ago! From my experience, I say go to the Hard Rock Cafe, omygosh its amazing! So much music stuff I died! Go to the top of the Rockefeller Center building, the view is absolutely amazing 76 stories up! Coming from someone who has awful fears of heights. Hm... Central Park is great, Times square is great, Broadway is amazing (what are you seeing???) um... Chinatown? I guess I really don't know what else to suggest, but have such a good time there, it really is amazing!!!

You should check out the High Line as well (it's a park built on a former elevated railroad.)
The Hudson River is nice, so you could always go there. There's the Hudson River Park, and if your family is into it, you could go kayaking on the Hudson, something like that. There are also other things you can do there...sailing, paddleboats, etc. Or, ya know, just walk along it.
Also, closer to when you guys go, you could look up movies/tv shows that are filming in the city and maybe go check it out...it's pretty interesting to watch them do their thing.
Oh, and you can't forget Grand Central Terminal! It's beautiful, and the whispering wall/arch is pretty cool.

Those are just a few things to add to everyone else. NYC is pretty fab...you'll have a blast Don't plan out everything...just take some time to explore, you're bound to find something interesting.

Great works are performed not by strength, but by perseverance.
PM me anytime <3
