The weather is great in April. There are sunny days and some rainy days. I think the weather is between 45 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit and it varies. It is a little cold for swimming at the beach but it is nice to go barefoot and walk on the sand. You only need a light jacket, nothing extra heavy. I think layers is key with clothing in NYC because weather can be unpredictable and you never know if you will get too hot or too cold. So April I would wear a short sleeves shirt with a sweater and a light jacket. You might find yourself taking of the sweater and jacket or you might need it. Also, are you looking for touristy places or something a local person would do?

I was in NYC in March this year - it was freezing one day and warm the next. St. Patricks Day was ice cold... We skipped the parade and found a pub for the day instead. I would bring jumpers, jeans and a coat definitely.

I would imagine that being with your class, you will see all the usual tourist spots. You definitely need to experience New York pizza. Nom nom, it's the best!

I'd google it when the time gets closer. When I visited by boyfriend in Boston in May of 2012, a time where it is usually sunny and glorious, it rained non-stop and I needed more sweatshirts than I brought. You never know what the east coast can do.

I went to NYC every day last year for schooling.

You will definitely want a cardigan, sweatjacket or light coat for 3pm onward as well as until 10am. These are better choices than sweatshirts because you can leave them on yet unzipped.

Do not bring anything you adore in your bag. If you go on the subway, it may and or will get stolen ESPECIALLY because you are a tourist. If you board the subway, just look generally calm and unhappy because that's how you'll blend in LOL.

Touristy things that are free: central park, window shopping, walking around times square (very popular shops-most notably Toys R Us and Macy's), metropolitan museum of art, high line park, walking about Rockefeller center.

Things that cost money- Empire State Building, carriage ride in central park, top of the Rock(efeller building), 9/11 memorial museum, museum of natural history, broadway (can be prohibitively expensive and time consuming), take a tour, radio city music hall.

Honestly, walking around, you'll see lots of things. Particularly around Times Square although I try to avoid it.

If you have other questions feel free to PM me.

Also - Find an Applebees. I loved that place when I was in New York.
