Banking in France? - March 16th 2012, 06:19 PM

Hi!

I know that there's another section for "Finances" but since this also goes under travel, I thought I'd post it here.

Next month, I will be going to France for a few months and of course, I don't want to carry huge amounts of cash with me. My bank said I can take out money from any bank there in France. But of course, there are charges. I was looking at the fees, and it's quite expensive, and that's only my own bank.. I'm pretty sure the french bank would have their own fees.

Does anybody know what's the best way to go about this? Any other accounts I can probably open which will give me less (free) fees?

I really wish I knew more about international travel and such, but I know if you use a card there are usually "foreign transaction fees" associated with the purchase. Perhaps you could balance between any card purchases and cash? It may be a good idea to drop by your local currency exchange location and ask some questions as well, as they will be more familiar with exchange rates and general financial knowledge throughout the world.

Eat upon their flesh for fuel, and, through your determination and will, banish them to obscurity and a life of complacency and self righteousness that is the hell in which they live"
