Hollyoaks - February 27th 2014, 06:40 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering by the original poster or by a Moderator. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

*some of the storylines in Hollyoaks are triggering, they feature rape, domestic abuse as well as other potential triggers

Okay so Hollyoaks is British soap. I've watched it for years but just recently they've been covering a lot of important issues and the acting and storylines have just been fantastic.

I especially like the way they've handled Maxine and Patrick's domestic abuse storyline. These characters have also taken part in an advert campaign into raising awareness for domestic abuse and pointing out that it doesn't always have to be physical for it to be abuse.

John Paul and Finn's rape storyline was well done too and it's good that they're trying to highlight that men can be rape victims too.

I usually don't get emotionally invested in soaps but because of the acting I actually get strong feelings for these characters. Some of the characters I hate with such a passion and others make me feel so sad for them.

Does anybody else watch this?

I haven't watched Hollyoaks in so long. Somewhere after Warren getting burnt alive in the club and Russ running away with his baby. I haven't kept up with it because I admit that although the storylines are great, no one ever seems to be happy or manages to stick in a relationship with someone for so long. I know it's probably to keep things rolling but it just felt a bit stale. Still, it was the only soap I actually ever enjoyed. I'd probably not be able to keep up with all the new characters and not understanding why some had returned.

Life is for living, not for losing.

I watch Hollyoaks all the time, have done since I was young. Some of the storylines are particularly sad especially the rape storyline, it brought tears to my eyes and reminded me of a situation I was in a long time ago.
